In their own words
aMule
aMule is a free, GPL-licensed peer-to-peer file-sharing client for the eD2k and Kademlia networks. It can connect to both at the same time and is compatible at the wire level with eMule and other *Mule clients. Search covers eD2k servers and Kademlia, with filters for type, size, and availability and support for AND, OR, and NOT. ICH and AICH checks can identify and repair damaged download chunks, and shared files can be re-hashed for integrity checks. Remote operation is available through a native GUI, REST API, browser Web UI, command-line tool, and legacy WebUI. Its amuled daemon can run without a graphical display on a server, NAS device, or VPS. Remote connections are encrypted; new installations accept connections only from the local machine, and failed logins are throttled. The software supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, with packages listed for Windows 10/11, macOS 11.0+, and Linux. Blocked ports can greatly reduce performance.
TorrServer
TorrServer is a free, self-hosted server that streams torrent content over HTTP without first downloading the full file. It caches torrent data, and the cache size can be adjusted to system parameters and internet connection speed. The project provides a cross-browser web interface, with a default local address of http://127.0.0.1:8090, plus a REST API and a native MCP endpoint for compatible clients to manage torrents and obtain playback URLs. Those URLs can be used with VLC, mpv, or a browser; Smart TV use through Media Station X is also documented. Torznab search supports Jackett, Prowlarr, and similar indexer managers. Optional features include a DLNA server and GStreamer HLS remuxing and transcoding in designated builds. Deployment options include standalone installs, Docker, and Docker Compose. Security controls include HTTP Basic authentication, HTTPS with user-supplied or generated certificates, and read-only database mode. The project warns that HTTP media sends stream URLs and Basic authentication credentials unencrypted, so it should be used only on a trusted network. TorrServer is GPL-3.0 licensed.
