Anime4K
Anime4K is a free, open-source collection of algorithms for real-time anime upscaling and denoising. The algorithms are intended for watching enlarged anime while it plays and can be implemented in any programming language. Anime4K is optimized for native 1080p anime encoded with H.264, H.265, or VC-1, with a listed maximum output resolution of 4K. Its described processing includes line-art CNN upscaling, line-art deblurring, denoising, resampling-artifact reduction, and experimental line darkening and thinning. It is desktop software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Installation instructions link GLSL configurations for mpv and Plex on Windows and Linux, and for mpv, IINA, and Plex on Mac. The project does not target anime reduced to 720p, 480p, or standard definition, and artifacts in older material may be difficult to remove. The project says SRGANs perform better on low-resolution or heavily degraded images, but they do not run in real time. Anime4K was founded in 2019 and is maintained by bloc97.
