In their own words
Apache Fineract
Apache Fineract is open source financial services software for building a cloud-ready core banking system, including services for unbanked and underbanked people. It manages client data, loan and savings portfolios, real-time accounting, and reporting. Financial products, KYC documentation, business rules, workflows, repayment recognition, and portfolio tracking are configurable. Fineract 1.x is headless and provides open APIs for custom interfaces and extensions; deployment options include cloud and on-premise, and third-party mobile solutions can use its headless design. Multi-tenancy separates institution data by database or schema. Documentation describes HTTP Basic or OAuth authentication as mutually exclusive options, optional two-factor authentication, fine-grained API permissions, and maker-checker workflows for state-changing operations. The project lists Fineract 1.15.0 as its current stable release and provides binary and source distributions with verification files. Apache Fineract costs nothing under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Production security configuration and ongoing maintenance remain the hosting organization’s responsibility.
Phoenix Core
Phoenix Core is a web-based, Microsoft-based core banking platform for U.S. community banks and credit unions. It manages accounts, deposits, loans, teller operations, and general ledger work in one system. More than a dozen built-in modules cover these core-processing activities. The interface is described as familiar to Microsoft Office users. Phoenix provides a fully open API architecture for additional integrations and can connect with PhoenixWorx’s curated network of third-party offerings. Banks may run Phoenix independently or combine it with other PhoenixWorx solutions in a connected, core-agnostic ecosystem. A modular AI strategy is intended to automate routine tasks and improve daily experiences for account holders and staff. PhoenixWorx describes its broader ecosystem as cloud-based and says it serves community banks, credit unions, neobanks, and non-bank organizations across the United States.
