In their own words
Apache Ignite
Apache Ignite is a free, open-source, memory-first distributed SQL database for high-velocity workloads. It keeps data primarily in memory, with persistence available through AIPERSIST, and supports ACID transactions across partitions using Raft consensus. MVCC snapshot isolation enables non-blocking reads. SQL access includes JDBC drivers, a Table API and native APIs, while catalog-driven schema management allows column and index changes without stopping the cluster. DataStreamer handles high-throughput writes with backpressure control. Native clients are listed for Java, .NET, C++ and Python, alongside AWS, Azure, GCE and Spring extensions. Built-in operational capabilities include authentication, SSL/TLS security, OpenTelemetry metrics, recovery snapshots and backups. Listed uses include event stream processing, microservices state management, session management and AI/ML feature stores. Ignite is self-hosted and available through binary, source, Docker and Maven/Gradle options. The project identifies Ignite 2 as a long-term-support release recommended for existing deployments.
RaimaDB
RaimaDB is an embedded database for mission-critical applications, including edge, IoT, and real-time systems. It can store data in memory or on disk without a schema change, and supports ACID transactions and rollback recovery. Raima says the database can operate with 350K of RAM and minimal CPU speeds; automatic encoding and compression use 25% less disk space on average. Interfaces include C/C++, Python, Java JDBC 4.2, ODBC 3.9, and a RESTful API, with integrations for Visual Studio, Xcode, Eclipse, and Wind River Workbench. Security includes AES encryption with 128-, 192-, or 256-bit keys; the 16.1 administrative GUI supports SSL. RaimaDB Cert is stated to meet functional-safety standards for automotive, aerospace, industrial, medical-device, and rail applications. Supported environments span Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, embedded operating systems, and a no-OS configuration. Pricing is available on request, and a free trial is listed. Raima was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Seattle.
