In their own words
Apache IoTDB
Apache IoTDB is an open-source industrial IoT time-series database for collecting, storing, managing, and analyzing device data across edge and cloud deployments. The project describes high-speed writes for millions of networked devices alongside fast reads. Query features include aligning time across devices and sensors, time-series computation, and aggregation by time dimensions. Ingestion options include IoTDB-SQL, JDBC, Java, C++, Python, and Go native APIs, REST, MQTT, CSV, and TsFile. Named analysis ecosystem examples include Hadoop, Spark, Flink, and Grafana. Deployment options include cloud installation, a desktop terminal tool, and synchronization between cloud and on-premise machines. The REST service is disabled by default and uses Basic Authentication except for the health check endpoint. Data and cluster permissions can be managed through users, roles, and privileges. The homepage states disk storage can cost less than $0.23 per GB. The project lists energy, aerospace, transportation, steel, and other IoT scenarios. Its JDBC documentation cautions that insert operations may not provide high-performance writing and recommends the Java Native API for Java applications.
Losant Enterprise IoT Platform
Losant Enterprise IoT Platform is a low-code platform for building real-time connected IoT solutions. Its Visual Workflow Engine provides drag-and-drop tools for logic and orchestration across cloud and edge environments. Experience Views support multi-tenant applications, custom branding and domains, and built-in authentication or enterprise SSO. Device features include digital twins, an MQTT broker, webhooks, and real-time two-way command and control. The platform offers dashboards, Jupyter notebook execution for batch analytics, and integrations with cloud AI/ML services. Edge capabilities include Modbus, OPC UA, BACnet, and SNMP connectors, remote deployments, and store-and-forward for intermittent connections. Deployment can use Losant’s managed Google Cloud service, a customer’s public cloud account, or an on-premises installation. The free Developer Sandbox allows up to 10 devices and 30 days of data storage without a credit card. Launch costs $250 a month and includes 100,000 monthly payloads and 90 days of retention; Growth costs $1,000 a month. Losant states that it is SOC 2 compliant and ISO 27001 certified.
