In their own words
Apache Ozone
Apache Ozone is a free, self-hosted distributed object store for data lakes, lakehouse workloads, AI/ML, cloud-native applications, and Hadoop or Spark storage. It supports deployments reaching billions of objects and exabytes of capacity, with configurable replication or erasure coding for each bucket or object. Applications can connect through an S3-compatible REST API, a Hadoop-compatible filesystem interface, a Java client API, or command-line tools. Ozone provides strong consistency: reads reflect the latest successfully completed writes. Security options include Kerberos authentication, ACLs, Ranger policy management, TLS/SSL in transit, and TDE at rest. Administrators can set volume and bucket quotas, create read-only point-in-time bucket snapshots, and use the Recon web UI or CLI tools. Listed integrations include Hive, Spark, Flink, Iceberg, Trino, Impala, Ranger, Knox, Kerberos, Prometheus, Grafana, Oozie, Hue, HBase, and DistCp. Deployment guides cover Docker, Kubernetes, and bare metal. The software is licensed under Apache License 2.0; the Apache Software Foundation says it does not provide formal or commercial support.
Qubole
Qubole is a cloud data lake platform for data engineering, data management, streaming analysis, machine learning, data exploration, and ad-hoc analytics. It lists support for AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, alongside Apache Spark, Presto, Hive/Hadoop, TensorFlow, and Airflow. Workbench lets users author, save, template, and share reports and queries, with optimized Presto SQL, Tableau and Looker integrations, and Git integration. The Assisted Pipeline Builder combines batch or streaming sources into streaming pipelines using fault-tolerant infrastructure. Qubole says it provisions, manages, and optimizes cloud resources, including workload-aware autoscaling and real-time spot buying. Security controls include encryption, role-based access, and integration with cloud IAM, Active Directory, and LDAP. The service states a 99.9% availability commitment, excluding scheduled and communicated maintenance. A 30-day full-featured trial is listed. Enterprise Edition is priced on request, billed per QCU per hr, and requires an annual contract; On-Demand is priced on request, billed per QCU per hr. Both exclude user fees; On-Demand lists them as $108 per user per month.
