Overview

AppStatus is a monitoring and incident-response platform for teams that need to watch services and infrastructure, coordinate alerts, and communicate outages from one place. Its broad coverage is most compelling for teams operating across hosts, Kubernetes and cloud services; smaller teams should weigh the free plan’s tight caps against the cost of expanding.

Checks span HTTP, API, port and ping endpoints across 70 global regions, with SSL tracking and heartbeat monitoring alongside Kubernetes visibility. The host agent gathers system and process metrics, logs, security events, container data, file-integrity changes, HTTP probe results and active sessions. That breadth can reduce the need to assemble separate monitoring and status-page tools, though it also makes plan limits important: the free tier allows only five monitors and one agent.

AppStatus connects monitoring to response with 12 notification channel types, conditional rules, escalation policies, quiet hours and on-call rotation. Incident analysis uses recent changes, alert patterns and incident history to suggest probable causes; that can help direct investigation, but does not replace a team’s own diagnosis. Status pages support custom domains and branding, password-protected private pages, email subscribers and scheduled maintenance. Cloud integrations cover AWS, Azure, GCP, databases, queues, runtimes and platform services, with connections read-only by design.

Key features

Monitoring and telemetry: Multi-region endpoint checks, SSL tracking, heartbeats and Kubernetes cluster, pod, node and deployment monitoring are paired with a host agent for detailed system data. This is useful where service health and host-level signals need to be considered together.
Alerting and incident response: A broad set of notification channels and routing controls supports more deliberate escalation than basic email alerts. AI-generated probable causes may shorten the path to a useful lead, but remain suggestions based on operational signals.
Status communications: Custom-branded pages, private access, email subscribers and maintenance scheduling let teams communicate planned and unplanned service changes without a separate status-page product.
Security and access: AppStatus supports email/password and Google OAuth sign-in, TOTP two-factor authentication, scoped API keys, four workspace roles, 13 granular permissions and audit logging. It states that passwords are hashed with Argon2id, traffic uses TLS, and agent-to-server gRPC uses mutual TLS.
Integrations and API: Alert destinations include Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, Telegram, WhatsApp, email, SMS, Pushover, GitHub and webhooks. The REST API, for monitoring data, alert management and custom integrations, is available from Pro upward.

Pricing

AppStatus has a free plan, paid plans from $6/mo (annual), and a 14-day trial. The entry point is inexpensive, but the higher plans are what unlock substantial monitoring capacity and, at Pro, the REST API.

Plan	Price	Limits and inclusions	Best fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	5 monitors with 5-minute checks, 3 heartbeats, 1 status page, 1 agent, 5 team members, 1 workspace, 1 Kubernetes cluster, 30 days’ retention, 15 notifications per day and email alerts.	A small project or team evaluating core monitoring and status-page workflows; the low monitor and daily notification ceilings make it a poor fit for busy operations.
Starter	6.00 USD per month, billed annually	50 monitors, 10 status pages, 10 agents, 15 team members, 3 workspaces and 365 days’ retention.	Small teams needing more monitoring capacity and a year of retention at the lowest paid price. The plan does not include custom domains or API access.
Pro	15.00 USD per month, billed annually	200 monitors, 50 status pages, 25 agents, 25 team members, 5 workspaces and custom domains.	Growing teams that need branded domains and the REST API, which starts at this tier.
Business	39.00 USD per month, billed annually	500 monitors, 100 status pages, 75 agents, unlimited team members, custom domains and custom webhooks.	Larger organizations that need more capacity, unlimited seats and custom webhooks.
Enterprise	119.00 USD per month, billed annually	Unlimited monitors, status pages, agents and team members, custom integrations and a dedicated CSM.	Organizations that need uncapped listed quantities and dedicated account support.

Starter adds substantial monitor and retention capacity over Free, but its custom-domain and API exclusions may matter to teams building a branded or integrated workflow. Pro raises those ceilings and adds custom domains; Business is the first listed tier with custom webhooks and unlimited team members. Enterprise is the only plan with custom integrations and a dedicated CSM. Typical weekday support response times are within 24 hours for Free and Starter, within 8 hours for Pro and Business, and a 1-hour SLA for Enterprise.

Platforms

AppStatus is available on API, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Its agent runs on Linux, macOS and Windows hosts, as well as Docker, Kubernetes and cloud virtual machines; binaries cover six architecture-platform combinations. That makes it suitable for mixed host environments, while the product’s API access remains gated to Pro plans and above.

Who it's for

AppStatus is a strong fit for teams that want uptime checks, host telemetry, alert routing, incident coordination and subscriber-facing status pages in one operating model. Kubernetes monitoring, read-only cloud connections and granular permissions suit teams with infrastructure responsibilities and access-control needs. A small operation with only a handful of checks may prefer the free tier, but should plan around its five-monitor cap, 15 daily notifications and email-only alerts.

Teams that require the REST API, custom domains or larger numbers of agents and monitors should budget for Pro or higher. Those wanting custom integrations or a dedicated customer success manager need Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad monitoring reaches from global endpoint checks to host, Kubernetes and cloud signals, making it possible to correlate service issues with infrastructure data.
Pro: Alert policies, escalation, on-call rotation and incident analysis connect detection to response rather than stopping at a health dashboard.
Pro: Status-page privacy, custom branding, email subscribers and maintenance scheduling support both public communication and controlled stakeholder updates.
Con: Free is sharply capped at five monitors, one agent and 15 notifications a day, so even modest operational growth can force an upgrade.
Con: Custom domains and the REST API require Pro or higher, leaving Starter less suitable for teams that need branded pages or programmatic control.
Con: The API and custom integrations are plan-dependent: API access starts at Pro, while custom integrations are reserved for Enterprise.

Alternatives

For a dedicated status-page shortlist, compare Status Page Software. Choose StatusIQ if its free tier’s one page, 10 components and 100 subscribers suit a focused status-page need. openstatus is worth comparing for a self-hosted-capable option: its Hobby plan is free with one monitor, one status page, three components and a 10-minute minimum check interval.

StatusEntry is another freemium option for a web-based status-page workflow. Instatus may suit teams prioritizing a free monitoring-and-status-page starting point, with 15 monitors, 2-minute checks, email alerts and five team members on Starter. Spectate offers a free Hobby plan with five monitors or servers and one status page, and a $12.00 USD per month Solo plan with one user and 15 monitors or servers.

StatusPage.me has a free plan with one page, three monitors per page, 30 days of uptime history and email notifications, making it a simpler page-centered alternative to assess. Freshstatus is a free web option. UpCanary offers a free Basic plan with one page, five service monitors, 14-day data retention and a 30-second minimum check interval.

Verdict

Choose AppStatus if your team wants one platform to connect multi-region uptime checks, infrastructure telemetry, incident response and status communications, and you can match its plan limits to your scale. Its strongest case is breadth across monitoring and communication; look elsewhere if you need API access on an entry paid tier, or if the free plan’s monitor, agent and notification caps are too restrictive.
