In their own words
Apptest.ai
Apptest.ai is an AI-powered testing platform for mobile apps that automates testing on real devices without requiring code. Its Ptero service supports autonomous exploratory testing and scenario tests created with Stego. The AI Testbot uses object detection and OCR to analyze screens and generate and run test scenarios. Stego lets users author scenarios visually by recording actions or arranging steps; Stego Web tests Windows PC apps through a browser, while Stego Desktop authors scenarios for Android and iOS apps. Tests run on real iOS and Android devices, with Android IPTV set-top boxes also supported. Premium Test Reports can include CPU and network profiling, screenshots, device logs, execution paths, and shareable links. Ptero's Open API connects CI/CD systems to schedule tests and receive results. Team costs $199 a month and includes 15 hours per month; Enterprise pricing is by quote. A free trial is listed. Sessions are limited to 30 minutes, and test devices support only the latest five Android and iOS versions.
Detox
Detox is an open-source framework for end-to-end testing of React Native mobile apps. It runs tests on real devices or simulators and simulates user interactions, with JavaScript tests for iOS and Android. Its gray-box method accesses app internals, while monitoring asynchronous app activity to reduce flaky tests. An async-await API supports breakpoints in asynchronous tests. Teams can use Detox APIs with any test runner or independently; Jest integration is included. The project describes it as suitable for CI and documents CI workflows. Detox is free under the MIT License, supports self-hosted runners and visual testing, and is listed for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. React Native v0.77.x through v0.84.x is fully compatible with the New Architecture; later versions may work but are not thoroughly tested. Expo integration is community-driven and not maintained by the Detox team. Non-React Native Android apps are not supported. iOS simulator setup requires applesimutils, which the setup guide says is for macOS only.
