Overview

Members can join, renew and update their details from a computer, tablet or phone, while administrators manage records and membership rules in a shared web service. The combination suits organisations moving routine membership work out of spreadsheets without giving up control over approvals, fees or member information.

Membermojo was founded in 2013 and is based in Dorking, Surrey. Its team says it has worked with thousands of clubs since then, and the service is aimed at the practical needs of local organisations rather than a general-purpose customer database.

Key features

Every plan includes a membership database, automated renewal reminders, mailing lists, a member directory, an attendance register, membership card images, PayPal and offline payments. That makes the lower tiers useful for routine administration, but the payment choice is narrower until the £95/year plan: Stripe is only available on that tier and above. Payments go directly to the organisation’s processor account, with processor fees charged separately.

Organisations can set up individual or family memberships, align renewals to either a financial year or an application date, and require a joining fee or approval before payment. Those controls accommodate common club arrangements without forcing every member through the same renewal cycle. Custom fields can hold emergency contacts, medical information and administrator-only notes, and members can maintain their own details. Administrators can sort and filter records in a spreadsheet-like view, assign view or edit permissions, and share access among multiple administrators.

Records can be imported from Microsoft Access, Excel or similar applications, and the full database can be exported as a spreadsheet. Mailchimp integration is reserved for plans costing £95/year or more. An optional printed-card service is offered through ClubCards121.

Membermojo says data is held in a UK data centre, mirrored to backup servers in real time and backed up hourly in encrypted form to a second UK data centre. It says card and account details do not pass through its systems, TLS is provided through Cloudflare, and stored passwords use one-way encryption with a multi-pass hash and unique salt. Its hosting companies are ISO27001 certified.

Pricing

The free plan covers up to 50 members and renews annually. It gives small groups a way to use the core membership service without a subscription, but the cap includes paid and pending members as well as retained lapsed-member records. Archived records kept only for download do not count. Going over a plan limit prompts an upgrade, so organisations near the cap should allow for former members still in their records.

Paid plans are billed annually, with prices inclusive of VAT. The 100-member plan costs £50/year; it includes the core features but not Stripe, the member store, phone wallet cards or Mailchimp. The 500-member plan costs £95/year and is the entry point for Stripe and Mailchimp, making it a more natural fit for organisations that need those integrations. Larger options are £175/year for up to 1,000 members, £300/year for up to 2,000, £475/year for up to 5,000 and £635/year for up to 10,000. These tiers suit growing registers that want the same service at higher caps, though the listed pricing does not establish additional feature differences between them. The 50-member paid plan has custom pricing.

The fully functional trial lasts 60 days, requires no payment details until conversion to a paid plan and carries no commitment. Processor fees remain separate from the subscription price.

Platforms

Membermojo is a web service, with access for members on PCs, tablets and phones. It does not require members to use a particular desktop or mobile operating system.

Who it's for

Membermojo is best for clubs, associations and charities that need a shared membership register, configurable renewals, self-service updates and straightforward payment collection. The free tier is a sensible starting point for groups under 50 members; organisations that need Stripe or Mailchimp should budget for at least £95/year. Groups with larger memberships can move to higher annual caps without changing services.

It is less suitable for organisations that need Stripe on the £50/year tier, want a non-web platform, or cannot accommodate a member-count limit that includes pending and retained lapsed records.

Pros and cons

Useful core coverage at every tier: reminders, member records, directory, attendance and PayPal or offline payments are included, including on the free plan.
Flexible membership administration: family levels, joining fees, approval before payment and alternative renewal dates suit varied club practices.
Member self-service and shared administration: members maintain their details while administrators can divide view and edit permissions.
Clear integration threshold: Stripe and Mailchimp require at least the £95/year tier, so the £50/year option may not fit organisations that depend on either.
Caps can include inactive records: retained lapsed memberships count toward the limit, which can push a growing organisation into an upgrade sooner than its current active membership suggests.

Alternatives

Mybers is worth comparing if unlimited members matter more than a low annual fee: its free Starter plan includes unlimited members and 500 emails per month, and it supports Android, iOS, web and API access.

Givebear is a better match for donor-contact management than member administration: its free plan covers 50 donor contacts and 100 emails a month, with email support.

ChamberedIn is another option for organisations comparing membership platforms.

memberplanet may suit organisations that want unlimited members and administrators on its Basic plan, or that are willing to pay $50 per month for Essentials, which carries a 2% platform fee.

MemberOrganizer is an alternative with paid monthly tiers, starting at €110 per month for 0–300 members; its listed prices exclude VAT.

MembershipWorks is worth considering for a web-only service with a free tier for 50 accounts and paid monthly plans starting at $35 per month for up to 300 accounts.

Paid Memberships Pro is the alternative to consider when a self-hosted, open-source membership plugin is preferable; its core plugin and add-ons use GPLv2 and can run on as many sites as desired.

Recur offers a paid alternative with mobile apps and a monthly plan for up to 1,000 contacts at $100 per month.

Verdict

Choose membermojo if your club, association or charity wants member self-service, configurable renewals and everyday administration in one web service, with a free entry point and annual tiers that scale by membership count. Its strongest case is the breadth of useful club-management tools even at the free level. Look elsewhere if Stripe or Mailchimp must be available below £95/year, or if your organisation cannot work within member caps that include retained records.
