In their own words
Argo CD
Argo CD is a declarative GitOps continuous delivery tool for Kubernetes. It uses Git repositories as the source of truth for desired application state and automates deployment to target environments. It compares running applications with that desired state, displays differences, and supports manual or automatic synchronization. The tool can deploy to multiple clusters and works with Kustomize, Helm, Jsonnet, plain YAML or JSON manifests, and configured custom configuration management tools. A web UI shows real-time application activity, while a CLI supports automation and CI integration. Access features include multi-tenancy, role-based controls, and single sign-on integrations such as OIDC, OAuth2, LDAP, SAML 2.0, GitHub, GitLab, Microsoft, and LinkedIn. It also provides access tokens, audit trails, and Prometheus metrics. Local accounts do not provide advanced features such as groups or login history; the documentation recommends SSO for those needs. Argo CD is free and open source with a self-managed installation. A common multi-tenant deployment serves multiple developer teams and is typically maintained by a platform team; the non-high-availability installation is not recommended for production.
Upsun (formerly Platform.sh)
Upsun, formerly Platform.sh, is a self-service managed platform for building and running applications. It is aimed at development teams and offers project management through a CLI, Console, and REST API. The platform supports ten programming languages, including Node.js, Python, and PHP, as well as frameworks such as Django, Express, Symfony, and Strapi. Teams can create on-demand preview environments that copy production configuration, code, and data. Upsun Cloud can deploy to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, and OVHcloud. Each project has two automated backups per day and two manual backups available for recovery. Listed security features include read-only application filesystems, DDoS protection, automated TLS certificates, multifactor authentication, and a web application firewall. The Trust Center lists PCI Level 1, HIPAA, SOC 2 Type 2, and ISO 27001 among its certifications and standards. A 15-day free trial begins without a credit card and includes a monthly credit covering one project fee and one user license. Pay-as-you-go pricing starts at €9.00 per project per month; resources are billed separately based on provisioned usage.
