Argos Translate
Argos Translate is a free, open-source Python translation library designed for offline use. It uses OpenNMT and can run as a Python library, command-line tool or GUI application. Language models are installed as .argosmodel archives, and the requested language pair must be installed before translation. Listed languages include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Japanese and Spanish, among others. When a direct pair is unavailable, Argos can route translation through an installed intermediate language, though this may reduce translation quality. Users can train and package custom language models. The maker describes LibreTranslate as an API and web application built on Argos Translate. A linked tool translates .txt, .odt, .odp, .docx, .pptx, .epub and .html files. The project is dual licensed under MIT or Creative Commons CC0. Argos Translate provides API access, supports Linux self-hosting and is associated with a community forum and machine-translation support or consulting services.
