In their own words
Argos Translate
Argos Translate is a free, open-source Python translation library designed for offline use. It uses OpenNMT and can run as a Python library, command-line tool or GUI application. Language models are installed as .argosmodel archives, and the requested language pair must be installed before translation. Listed languages include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Japanese and Spanish, among others. When a direct pair is unavailable, Argos can route translation through an installed intermediate language, though this may reduce translation quality. Users can train and package custom language models. The maker describes LibreTranslate as an API and web application built on Argos Translate. A linked tool translates .txt, .odt, .odp, .docx, .pptx, .epub and .html files. The project is dual licensed under MIT or Creative Commons CC0. Argos Translate provides API access, supports Linux self-hosting and is associated with a community forum and machine-translation support or consulting services.
SimpleLocalize
SimpleLocalize helps teams manage software translations and automate localization workflows. Its web translation editor offers customizable views, collaboration features, and word and character counters. Teams can use AI and machine auto-translation, no-code workflow automations, and host project translations behind a CDN. Developer tools include a REST API and an open-source CLI for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The CLI handles more than 30 localization file formats, including JSON, YAML, XLIFF, PO, ARB, Android XML, iOS Strings, CSV, and Excel. Listed integrations include GitHub, Figma, VS Code, IntelliJ, Shopify, Webflow, DeepL, and OpenAI. Users can import Excel or CSV data and export to Excel, CSV, or JSON. The free Community plan costs nothing and includes 500 translation keys, unlimited strings, 10 projects, 10 languages, one team member, and a 90-day activity and history log. A 14-day trial is listed. All plans are subject to a Fair Use Policy, and custom plans are available for large teams and enterprises. The maker says data is encrypted in transit and production data is regularly backed up with encrypted backups.
