PlatformIO Core
PlatformIO Core is the command-line component of the PlatformIO ecosystem for embedded development. It includes a multi-platform build system, a unified package manager, library management with a Library Dependency Finder, and a serial port monitor. The platformio.ini file provides declarative configuration for multiple platforms and architectures. Library Manager can use the PlatformIO Registry and Git, Mercurial, and Subversion repositories. The pio ci command is intended for build servers, with documented integrations including AppVeyor, CircleCI, Drone, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Shippable, and Travis CI. PlatformIO Core is written in Python and licensed under Apache 2.0 for personal and commercial projects. Documented host systems include Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Linux ARMv6+. It supports frameworks and SDKs including Arduino, CMSIS, FreeRTOS, Mbed, STM32Cube, and Zephyr, along with target architectures such as AVR, ESP32, RISC-V, and STM32. Installation options include an installer script, Python Package Manager, and Homebrew on macOS. Minimal diagnostics and usage information sharing is enabled by default. The tool is free and open source.
