Overview

AskYourPDF is a document AI service for people who need to question files, put a source-grounded agent on a website, or fill PDF forms from supplied information. It is most compelling when those jobs belong in one workflow; readers with heavy document use should weigh its daily quotas and upload caps against their needs.

Document chat works with uploaded PDFs and text documents, while website agents can draw on web pages and uploaded files in several formats. The product’s additional form-filling and API capabilities make it broader than a simple PDF question-and-answer tool, but its plan limits differ sharply by tier.

AskYourPDF is headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia. It says its website agents answer only from supplied sources and that the service is GDPR compliant, with encryption and strict data-security and privacy standards.

Key features

Document chat lets users ask questions about an uploaded PDF or text document and retrieve insights from its contents. That suits targeted lookup and summarisation; the free tier’s one-document-per-day allowance is restrictive for anyone working through a stack of files.

Website agents can use web pages and uploaded PDF, TXT, PPT, PPTX, EPUB, and RTF files as sources. They can be embedded through plain HTML, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, React, Vue, or Next.js. The source-only answer policy is useful when responses need to stay tied to supplied material, though it also means the agent’s scope depends on those sources.

For PDF form completion, users pair a fillable or non-fillable form with source data from another PDF, a text file, or pasted content. This is a distinct practical use beyond document chat, especially for users handling repeated forms.

The Chrome extension works with PDFs opened from Google Drive in Chrome; AskYourPDF also offers Zotero and ChatGPT plugins. Its API supports PDF data extraction, document chatbots, searching and navigating PDF contents, and conversations across multiple documents. That gives developers options beyond the web interface.

Premium and Pro include multi-document Knowledge Base chat, summarisation, Chrome extension access, and OCR. Pro adds priority support and longer replies. The feature step-up is useful for larger or more demanding workloads, but the stated daily quotas are the clearest distinction between the two tiers.

Pricing

The pricing page displays “Start Free Trial” for both plans.

Free: custom pricing. The plan allows 100 pages per document, uploads up to 15MB, one document per day, 50 questions per day, and three conversations per day. This is suitable for occasional use, but the daily document and conversation caps can quickly constrain regular study or work.
Premium: 11.99 USD per year (billed per month, billed yearly). It raises limits to 2,500 pages per document, 31MB uploads, 50 documents per day, 1,200 questions per day, and 50 conversations per day. It fits users who need the shared Premium/Pro features and moderate daily volume, but the 31MB cap remains a consideration for large files.
Pro: 14.99 USD per year (billed per month, billed yearly). It allows 6,000 pages per document, uploads up to 877MB, 150 documents per day, 100,000 questions per day, and 10,000 conversations per day. The substantially higher limits suit intensive use; Pro also adds priority support and longer replies.
API Free: custom pricing, with 100 messages and 5,000 pages per month. It offers a way to try the API at a low quota, but the monthly message ceiling is tight for sustained applications.
API Pro: 49.99 USD per month (billed per month, billed monthly), with 6,000 messages and 60,000 pages per month. This is the paid API tier for workloads that need more monthly capacity.
Enterprise: custom pricing. It includes unlimited pages per document, uploads up to 1431MB, 1,000 documents per day, and unlimited questions and conversations per day. It is aimed at high-volume use rather than individuals comparing fixed-price subscriptions.
API Enterprise: custom pricing, with flexible messages per day and high-volume document pages per month. Contact sales for plan questions or a demo.

The annual-billing wording on Premium and Pro is worth checking against the quoted prices before choosing a term. Account, billing, and document-processing questions go to the support team.

Platforms

AskYourPDF supports web, Android, iOS, a browser extension, and an API. That mix serves users who want to work across devices as well as teams building document features into their own applications.

Who it's for

The company positions AskYourPDF for students, researchers, professionals, and businesses. Students and researchers can use document chat to interrogate source material; professionals handling forms may value automated field completion. The API use cases span education, legal research, finance, technical documentation, healthcare, and customer support, making the API tier relevant to developers serving those workflows.

It is a stronger fit for users who want document chat alongside website agents or form completion than for someone seeking only a narrowly focused PDF reader. Occasional users can start on Free, while users with large files or frequent queries have a clearer case for Pro.

Pros and cons

Pro: Document chat, website agents, and PDF form completion cover several document workflows in one service.
Pro: Website agents accept multiple file formats and can be embedded across common site builders and frontend frameworks.
Pro: The API supports extraction, search, navigation, chatbots, and cross-document conversations.
Con: Free use is capped at one document and three conversations per day, which limits routine multi-file work.
Con: Premium’s 31MB upload ceiling is modest beside Pro’s 877MB allowance, so users with large files may need the higher tier.
Con: Premium and Pro show annual billing alongside monthly wording, and the trial offer gives no duration.

Alternatives

For a broader set of related products, browse AI PDF Assistants, Text Summarization Software, or AI PDF Tools.

Audeus is worth considering when listening to documents and text-to-speech across devices matter more than AskYourPDF’s document chat and form workflows; its free plan includes limited document uploads and free text to speech.
Anara may suit readers who want research connectors: its Plus plan includes PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov connectors, alongside extended AI usage limits.
Paperpal is an alternative for regular research and writing needs, with a Prime plan priced at 12.00 USD per year in the supplied plan details.
Explainpaper is a focused option for explaining highlighted passages, with unlimited highlight explanations and follow-up questions on its free plan.
docAnalyzer is an alternative for document analysis, chat, and notes; its Community plan has monthly upload limits and no API access, while Basic is 8.00 USD per month.
PDF.chat may appeal to readers seeking a lower-cost paid entry point: its Starter plan is 5.00 USD per month and includes 750 pages per month.
pdfAssistant.ai offers a free Starter plan with monthly credits and limits on AI messages, document processes, and workflow edits; full downloads require a paid plan.
Sharly AI is another freemium option, with a Free plan capped at 10 documents and 50 messages per month.

Verdict

AskYourPDF is a good choice for students, researchers, and professionals who want document chat plus the option to automate forms or deploy a source-based website agent. Its breadth and API make it more versatile than a single-purpose PDF chatbot, but free quotas are tight and the annual-billing terms deserve a close look. Choose Pro for higher stated limits; look elsewhere if your needs are narrower or predictable billing terms matter more than the combined workflow.
