Astro Starlight
Astro Starlight is a free documentation theme built on the Astro framework. It provides site navigation, full-text search, internationalization, SEO, code highlighting, and dark mode. Authors can write in Markdown and extend the setup for MDX and Markdoc. Components from React, Vue, Svelte, Solid, and other frameworks can be added. Starlight works with Astro integrations and plugins, including community options and an official Algolia DocSearch plugin that can replace Pagefind, the default search provider. Community tools cover uses such as OpenAPI documentation, blogs, comments, and broken-link checking. To start a new site, create an Astro project with a Starlight template; an existing Astro project can add Starlight as an integration. Projects can be created with npm, pnpm, or Yarn and previewed with Astro's development server. The project is MIT licensed and supports documentation versioning. Its Getting Started guide describes Starlight as beta software and recommends regular updates. The documentation directs users to the Astro Discord support forum and Starlight channel for help.
Next.js
Next.js is a free, open-source, full-stack framework for building web applications. It supports JavaScript and TypeScript as its primary languages and uses hybrid rendering. Deployment is listed for self-hosted environments, allowing teams to run web projects on infrastructure they manage. The framework’s full-stack scope brings application development into one framework, while hybrid rendering combines multiple rendering approaches within that scope. Next.js is available for the web and has a free plan under its listed pricing model. It does not include an ORM or built-in authentication, so those capabilities are outside its stated included features. Developers choosing Next.js can work in either JavaScript or TypeScript and deploy the resulting application themselves. The project’s open-source license model provides access without a listed software charge. The official website is nextjs.org.
