Overview

Lunacy is a graphic design and UI design platform for people building interfaces and other visual work, from solo designers to corporate teams. Its strongest case is the combination of a substantial design toolkit, built-in creative assets, offline work, and private-cloud deployment. Teams that rely on plugins, animation, 3D, or .fig files should look elsewhere.

Its workflow includes auto layouts, components, variables, prototyping, and real-time collaboration. Local documents and offline use make it useful when an internet connection is unavailable; native .sketch support and Figma document imports can also help teams carry existing work forward.

Key features

Design, assets, and AI

Lunacy combines layout and prototyping tools with icons, illustrations, photos, and UI kits. That breadth can reduce the need to source common design materials separately. Its AI tools cover image upscaling, background removal, text generation, and avatar generation. The graphics subscription specifies upscaling up to 7680 × 7680 px.

Real-time collaboration supports shared work, while the ability to work offline and with local documents gives designers more flexibility than a cloud-only workflow. The trade-off is a limited extension path: third-party integrations are not currently planned, and plugins, animation, 3D support, and .fig support are among features unlikely to appear soon. That is a meaningful constraint for teams whose production workflow depends on those capabilities.

Private cloud

Enterprise customers can deploy a private cloud on-premises or on a VPS. Controls include user access management, single sign-on, detailed logs, data recovery, and administrator-approved updates. On-premises hosting keeps data within the company network, but the customer is responsible for the server and backups. VPS customers can manage backups themselves or delegate them to Icons8 engineers. This is a serious option for organizations with hosting requirements, but it comes with operational responsibility rather than turnkey custody in every deployment.

Pricing

Lunacy is freemium, with a free trial unavailable. Its plans cover different combinations of collaboration, storage, graphics assets, and enterprise controls; compare the limits carefully, since several plans use different seat and document caps.

Free: 0.00 USD per free. Aimed at beginners, it allows up to 10 cloud documents, up to 10 document editors/exporters, and 30 days of version history. It is a practical way to start, but those caps can constrain ongoing team work.
Personal cloud plan: 4.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It adds unlimited cloud documents, editors/exporters, and viewers, entire version history, and deleted-file storage forever. It suits an individual who wants fewer cloud and history limits.
Trial team plan: custom pricing. It includes up to 10 team cloud documents, 3 editors/exporters, unlimited viewers, up to 3 team members, and 30 days of version history. The small editor and member allowances make it a limited team option.
Professional team plan: 4.99 USD per month, billed monthly, with unlimited cloud documents, editors/exporters, and viewers, plus deleted-file storage forever. Additional members cost $4.99 per user/month. It is the clearest fit for working teams, though seat costs rise as the team grows.
Full graphics subscription: 9.99 USD per month, with the price valid when subscribed through the Lunacy app. It includes image upscaling up to 7680 × 7680 px.
Pro: 11.99 USD per year, billed per user/month and billed yearly. It includes editable vector icons and illustrations, studio-quality photos, AI upscaling and background removal, no attribution or backlink, and unlimited cloud documents, version history, and deleted-document storage. This is aimed at solo designers and teams seeking the asset and AI package; the yearly billing term matters.
Enterprise: custom pricing. It adds a tailored plan, granular access control, priority feature development, a dedicated customer success manager, 24/7 priority support, private cloud (self-hosted or VPS), and Bunker mode. It is intended for large corporate teams rather than buyers seeking a standard per-seat plan.

Platforms

Lunacy supports Linux, macOS, Windows, and web use, as well as self-hosted deployment. A desktop app is available. The combination of desktop and web access supports different working setups, while self-hosting addresses organizations that need private-cloud deployment.

Who it's for

Lunacy is a good fit for interface and graphic designers who want collaborative design tools, reusable components, built-in assets, and offline capability in one platform. Solo users can start free or consider Personal cloud and Pro; teams can compare the capped Trial team plan with Professional team pricing. Organizations with strict hosting and access-control needs have an Enterprise route, provided they are prepared to manage on-premises infrastructure and backups or choose the VPS arrangement.

It is a weaker fit for teams dependent on plugins, animation, 3D design, .fig files, or third-party integrations. Those exclusions narrow its appeal for workflows built around an extensible design ecosystem.

Pros and cons

Pros: Offline work and local documents suit travel, unreliable connectivity, or work that should remain local.
Pros: Built-in icons, illustrations, photos, and UI kits provide useful starting materials within the design workflow.
Pros: Private-cloud deployment and administrative controls give corporate teams options for hosting and access governance.
Cons: Plugin, animation, 3D, and .fig support are unlikely soon, and third-party integrations are not planned, limiting teams that need those extensions.
Cons: On-premises customers must operate the server and handle backups, adding duties beyond design work.
Cons: Free and trial-team quotas cap documents, editors, members, or history, so they may not sustain a growing shared workflow.

Alternatives

For a different vector-design option, Amadine has a free version that is fully operational on iPad and iPhone, while exporting, printing, and image tracing require purchase; choose it when those Apple mobile platforms are central to the workflow.

Tilda is a web-oriented freemium option whose free plan covers one website with key blocks and whose Personal plan costs 15.00 USD per month for full block access and a custom domain. Pick it when building a website, rather than using Lunacy's broader design and collaboration workflow, is the priority.

Drawtify offers a free tier with 40 MB image uploads, SD exports, and limited templates and design elements; its Monthly plan is 9.99 USD per month and raises uploads to 1 GB. It may suit someone seeking a browser-accessible graphic design option with a defined upload allowance.

Graphite is a free, open-source alternative for readers who prefer that model.

Linearity Curve offers a free plan with 250 lifetime credits, one basic brand kit, and 5GB cloud storage; consider it when those allowances and its iOS or macOS platform support match the work.

Vecteezy offers image and video download plans, including an image-only option and an unlimited all-access option, for readers focused on downloading visual assets.

Gusta Draw is free across Android, iOS, and web, with drawing tools, effects, starter designs, and SVG, PNG, and PDF exports; its AI copilot uses granted tokens during open beta. It suits readers seeking a free drawing-focused option.

ProtoSketch has an iOS and macOS Lite tier capped at five documents, with some libraries locked and exports restricted to social shares and ProtoSketch files.

Verdict

Choose Lunacy if you want a broad design toolkit with collaboration, built-in assets, offline work, and the option of a privately hosted cloud. Its strongest distinction is the range of individual and enterprise workflows it can accommodate. Look elsewhere if your team depends on integrations, plugins, animation, 3D, or .fig files, or if you do not want to take responsibility for private-cloud infrastructure and backups.
