Overview

ASUS DisplayWidget Center is desktop software for managing compatible ASUS monitors. It suits owners who want to adjust their display from Windows or macOS and use monitor-specific tools without paying for the app. Its range is substantial, but its value depends on owning a supported ASUS model.

Common adjustments sit alongside gaming, OLED-care and productivity controls, with some features limited to particular monitor models or series. It is a strong fit for supported ASUS displays, not a universal monitor utility.

Key features

Controls, profiles and shortcuts

Display modes, brightness, contrast, colour temperature and input switching can be managed from the computer. App Tweaker applies presets or custom profiles to particular apps, and keyboard shortcuts can call up monitor settings. Monitor profiles, settings scheduling and auto brightness extend the control set; settings can also be saved to the monitor’s OSD. This makes the app more useful to people who regularly switch tasks or display setups than to owners who rarely change their monitor settings.

MacBook brightness hotkeys work when enabled in macOS Accessibility. The software also integrates with ROG XREAL R1 glasses and the ProArt CaliContrO MCA02.

Assistant and automation

The AI Assistant accepts voice and text requests to adjust display settings or answer ASUS display product FAQs. It needs internet access and an account login, and usage may be limited to maintain service quality; it is therefore less suitable for offline workflows or users who do not want to sign in. The Display CLI supports programmatic control, while AI Agent Skills let compatible agents adjust settings with natural-language requests.

Monitor-specific features and upkeep

OLED Care includes pixel cleaning, uniform brightness and timer reminders, but the available options depend on the monitor. Gaming tools include AI Visual and GamePlus, likewise restricted to specific models or series. Productivity features cover ZenScreen auto rotation, eye-care controls, MultiFrame window layouts, PIP/PBP and KVM controls. That breadth is useful when a monitor supports the relevant functions, but buyers should not assume every feature works across the ASUS range.

Firmware update notifications, product registration and automatic software updates support ongoing upkeep. Compatibility should be checked before installation because only select ASUS monitors are supported.

Pricing

ASUS DisplayWidget Center: Free. The plan is a free download for compatible ASUS monitors, with no free trial. It includes the software’s available monitor controls and features, subject to model and service requirements. There is no paid tier to unlock broader monitor compatibility; the key trade-off is that owners of unsupported displays cannot use it as their monitor-control solution.

Platforms

DisplayWidget Center supports Windows 11 or later and macOS 12 Monterey or later. Platform support does not remove the compatible-monitor requirement.

Who it's for

Choose it if you own a supported ASUS monitor and want computer-based adjustments, app-specific profiles, shortcuts or model-dependent gaming, OLED-care and productivity tools at no cost. Look elsewhere if your monitor is not supported, or if you need controls that work across a mixed-brand display setup.

Pros and cons

Pro: Free access to a broad set of monitor controls, profiles, shortcuts and scheduling, with no paid plan to budget for.
Pro: CLI and AI Agent Skills provide options for programmatic control beyond the standard desktop interface.
Pro: OLED-care, gaming and productivity tools cover more than basic brightness and colour adjustments when the monitor supports them.
Con: Compatibility is limited to select ASUS monitor models, which rules it out as a general-purpose utility.
Con: Some features are model-specific, while the AI Assistant also requires internet access and account login and may be usage-limited.

Alternatives

Monitor Control Software is the broader category to browse if you want to compare monitor-control options rather than commit to an ASUS-specific app.

Lunar is a macOS freemium alternative with a free plan and trial; consider it if you want a Mac-focused option. ddcutil is free and supports Linux, API and self-hosted use, making it a better fit for those environments. DeepPurge is another free option for Linux, macOS and Windows.

DisplayBuddy is worth considering if you want a paid alternative with a trial and Windows or macOS support; its Personal plan is 24.99 USD per once for one Mac, with unlimited presets and lifetime access. Monitor Brightness Control is a free Linux tool for DDC/CI-compatible monitors with I2C access. Twinkle Tray is a free Windows option for Windows 10 and 11, covering most laptops and DDC/CI-enabled monitors.

BetterDisplay is a macOS freemium option with a trial; its BetterDisplay Pro license costs 21.99 USD per once for covered versions and includes at least one year of updates. DDC-CI Control Bridge is a free alternative for API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted and Windows use.

Verdict

For owners of a compatible ASUS monitor, DisplayWidget Center is an easy recommendation: it costs nothing and combines everyday adjustments with profiles, shortcuts and monitor-dependent specialist tools. The deciding reason to look elsewhere is the narrow compatibility boundary; if your display is unsupported, its feature breadth does not help.
