| Declarative workflow | Users describe a desired schema in HCL, SQL or ORM models and Atlas computes the migration plan. | It compares a desired YAML schema with the current database schema and generates the SQL needed to synchronize them. |
| Migration safety | Built-in analyzers check destructive changes, data-dependent changes, blocking table changes, concurrent-index issues and other hazards. | Migration policies can detect destructive changes such as dropping columns or tables and fail CI checks. |
| Support | The pricing page lists GitHub and Discord support for Starter, business-hours support for Pro, and a custom SLA for Enterprise. | The project directs users to a Replicated Community forum and the #schemahero channel in Kubernetes Slack. |
| Supported databases | The open version supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, TiDB, and LibSQL, while the Pro plan adds multiple other drivers including SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, and Databricks. | Supported database engines are PostgreSQL, MySQL, CockroachDB, TimescaleDB, Cassandra, SQLite, and RQLite. |
| What it does | Atlas manages database schemas and changes as code by planning, testing, linting and applying migrations. | SchemaHero is an open-source database schema migration tool that converts schema definitions into migration scripts usable in any environment. |

In their own words
Atlas
Atlas is a language-independent tool for managing database schemas and migrations through declarative, versioned workflows. It compares a database's current state with a desired schema expressed in HCL, SQL, or an ORM format, then can generate and execute a migration plan. Teams can lint and validate migrations, run safety checks, and test schemas and migrations. The open version supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, TiDB, and LibSQL; Pro adds drivers including SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, and Databricks. Atlas describes its core engine as open source under Apache 2.0, with advanced features in proprietary versions. Integrations include Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI, Bitbucket Pipelines, Azure DevOps, and a Go SDK. Starter is free. Atlas Pro costs $9 per developer per month, plus usage-based pricing for CI/CD pipelines and databases; new users can try Pro for 30 days. Schema Monitoring costs $39 per monitored database per month. Enterprise pricing is custom.
