Overview

QRaten brings academic users, courses, sub-courses and attendance sessions into a shared platform. Teachers create classes; students check in by scanning a QR code or entering a time-limited code. The two methods give institutions a fallback when scanning is impractical, while device-bound sessions and duplicate-record protections are intended to curb proxy and repeat check-ins.

Absence tracking, alerts and personal attendance history extend it beyond a session register. Its role-based permissions distinguish students, teachers, assistants and substitutes, which makes it a better fit for institutions with different responsibilities than for a single teacher seeking only a basic class list.

Key features

Offline attendance

QRaten saves actions locally when a device is offline, queues them and syncs automatically when connectivity returns. The site says local data is encrypted and synchronization resolves conflicts automatically. That is useful for classrooms with unreliable connections, but the terms place the risk of data lost through unsynced offline use on the user. Institutions should not treat queued records as safely backed up until synchronization completes.

Reports and permissions

Excel and PDF reports can be filtered by course, date, role, status and academic period, giving administrators more useful ways to review attendance than an unfiltered export. These reports and advanced roles are part of Pro, not the Free plan. QRaten also describes secure authentication, expiring invitations and sync validation; these controls support a more structured rollout, though the service does not guarantee uninterrupted cloud availability.

Browser-based installation

QRaten is a Progressive Web App installed through a compatible browser, without an app-store download. This reduces installation friction across supported devices, but access still depends on compatible browsers and device requirements: Android 8+, iOS 16.4+, and Windows, Mac and Linux support through compatible browsers.

Pricing

Free Plan: Free (billed $0 / forever). It includes students and members, QR/code attendance, personal history, mobile, tablet and computer access, offline sync, essential alerts and PWA installation. This is the sensible starting point for individual use or a small group that does not need institutional course management, advanced roles, analytics or report exports.

Pro Plan Full access: Free (billed Free for a limited time). It adds institutional course and user management, advanced roles, Excel/PDF reports, analytics, onboarding, integrations and priority support. That package suits institutions needing administrative controls and reporting, but “Free for a limited time” is not a durable price commitment. Confirm renewal terms before building a long-term deployment around Pro; no later price is stated.

QRaten offers a free trial, but no trial length or separate terms are stated. Institutional contacts can reach support at oficial@qraten.com or WhatsApp +591 70930853; priority support is included with Pro.

Platforms

The platform list covers Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. QRaten’s browser-installable PWA avoids app-store distribution, while the compatibility guide sets minimums of Android 8+ and iOS 16.4+ and requires compatible browsers on Windows, Mac and Linux. QRaten aims for WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility, while acknowledging that some parts may not yet be fully accessible; that matters for institutions that need to ensure every student and staff member can use the same attendance workflow.

Who it's for

QRaten is a practical match for academic institutions that want QR or code-based attendance, offline capture and role-aware administration in one platform. Its free tier can support basic attendance use. Institutions that need exports, analytics, integrations or centralized course and user management will need Pro, and should weigh the limited-time free terms and cloud-availability caveat before adopting it broadly.

Pros and cons

Pros: QR scans and time-limited code entry provide two check-in methods, with device binding and duplicate-record protections aimed at reducing proxy and repeat attendance.
Pros: Offline queuing and automatic sync support attendance capture during connection interruptions, with encrypted local storage described by QRaten.
Pros: Filterable Excel/PDF exports and differentiated roles support administrative review across courses and academic periods.
Cons: The richer institutional tools are tied to a Pro plan described as free only for a limited time, leaving its longer-term cost uncertain.
Cons: Unsynced offline data can be lost, and cloud availability is not guaranteed, so it is not a dependable sole record without institutional safeguards.
Cons: Some parts may not yet meet QRaten’s stated WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility aim, which may constrain institution-wide use.

Alternatives

Student Attendance Software is a broader category to compare if QRaten’s particular mix of offline sync and QR/code check-ins is not the right fit.

Bulsee is worth considering for readers who want a free option across Android, iOS and web; no price or usage limits are stated for its free-to-start plan.

GatePass suits schools that prefer a paid product with a full-term free trial and a stated Gate plan price of 150000.00 UGX.

Edusign is an alternative for organizations that need document signatures alongside attendance; its Organisation Pro plan includes 1,000 attendances per month before €0.25 per signature and 1,200 document signatures per year, with custom pricing.

SchoolPass Visitor Management is another paid option for readers comparing attendance-related platforms.

Attendances may suit schools that prefer an institution-specific quote based on their needs.

EduAttendance is an alternative for schools seeking a subscription priced by student count, including a self-hosted platform option.

SwipeK12 is a paid alternative whose Swipe Basic package starts with pricing by request.

UnivTrack is another free option, with web, desktop and mobile platform support.

Verdict

Choose QRaten if your institution wants QR and code attendance that can queue offline, with role-based administration and exportable reports as needs grow. Its strongest case is combining check-in with offline operation and institutional tools; its biggest cautions are Pro’s limited-time free terms and the exposure of unsynced data. For basic attendance, the forever-free plan is a credible starting point; for a school-wide system, verify Pro’s future cost and put a process around synchronization before relying on it as the attendance record.
