In their own words
Avatar²
Avatar² is a free Python framework for dynamic analysis of embedded-device firmware. It coordinates targets, memory layouts and execution plans so firmware execution can be divided across multiple targets. Targets communicate through protocols with emulators, analysis frameworks or physical devices. The handbook documents GDB, OpenOCD, J-Link, QEMU and PANDA targets. OpenOCDTarget connects to physical targets over JTAG, while JLinkTarget supports SWD and JTAG. PANDA support includes recording and replaying execution and managing analysis plugins. Memory layouts define regions and rules for forwarding reads and writes between targets. The project documents installation through pip, from source or in Docker, where QEMU and PANDA are the defaults. It lists Linux support and ARM Cortex-M3 and x86-64 architectures. The README provides target build scripts for Ubuntu 20.04; other distributions are not officially supported, though they may work with modifications. The project uses the Apache-2.0 license and is maintained by EURECOM's Software and System Security Group. Maintainers direct users to a public mailing list and an invite-based Slack community.
MakeItTalk
MakeItTalk is Linux, self-hosted software that creates expressive talking-head videos from one facial image and an audio track. Audio content drives lip movement and nearby facial motion, while speaker information influences expressions and other talking-head movement. The project describes use with human portraits, paintings, sketches, 2D cartoons, manga, and stylized caricatures, including faces or characters not seen during training. Its repository includes pretrained models, module training code, and Google Colab demos for natural faces. For human faces and paintings, the README calls for a centered 256×256 JPG portrait and a WAV file. Optional command-line settings adjust lip motion on the x and y axes and head-motion displacement. Local setup specifies Python 3.6, ffmpeg, and Python packages; cartoon face warping on Ubuntu also requires winehq-stable. Custom puppets are listed as a to-do item, and training sections for voice conversion, the speaker-aware branch, and image-to-image translation are marked unfinished. It is free open-source research code under CC BY-NC 4.0, allowing noncommercial use under that license.
