In their own words
Avatar²
Avatar² is a free Python framework for dynamic analysis of embedded-device firmware. It coordinates targets, memory layouts and execution plans so firmware execution can be divided across multiple targets. Targets communicate through protocols with emulators, analysis frameworks or physical devices. The handbook documents GDB, OpenOCD, J-Link, QEMU and PANDA targets. OpenOCDTarget connects to physical targets over JTAG, while JLinkTarget supports SWD and JTAG. PANDA support includes recording and replaying execution and managing analysis plugins. Memory layouts define regions and rules for forwarding reads and writes between targets. The project documents installation through pip, from source or in Docker, where QEMU and PANDA are the defaults. It lists Linux support and ARM Cortex-M3 and x86-64 architectures. The README provides target build scripts for Ubuntu 20.04; other distributions are not officially supported, though they may work with modifications. The project uses the Apache-2.0 license and is maintained by EURECOM's Software and System Security Group. Maintainers direct users to a public mailing list and an invite-based Slack community.
Qiling Framework
Qiling Framework is free software for emulating and instrumenting binaries for reverse engineering and security analysis. It runs machine code in an isolated environment and supports debugging across architectures and platforms. Listed architectures include x86, x86_64, ARM, ARM64, MIPS, and 8086; supported formats include PE, Mach-O, ELF, and COM. Hooks can observe instructions, basic blocks, memory access, exceptions, system calls, and I/O. APIs provide access to registers, memory, filesystems, operating systems, debugging, and execution-state saving and restoration. Qiling can also hot patch running code, including loaded libraries. Its IDA Pro plugin can emulate binaries in IDA, display live context, run scripts, save and load snapshots, and deobfuscate code. Qiling uses Unicorn for CPU emulation and adds operating-system awareness, executable loading, dynamic linking, and syscall and I/O handling. Installation options include pip, source, and Docker. It is licensed under GPL version 2 or a later version at the user's option. Some syscalls or operating-system APIs may not be implemented, and users may need to implement or map them.
