Avira Software Updater vs Software Updater

Avira Software Updater scans Windows computers for outdated software and helps users obtain updates. Avira says it manages patches for more than 150 programs and also handles drivers. The free version identifies outdated programs and links to updates on publishers’ websites. Pro can automatically download and install selected software, app and driver updates, including silently. Avira lists Windows operating system updates, automatic exploit protection, priority access to updates, customer support and no ads among Pro features. The product is for Windows 7 SP1 and later. Avira says current software can help address vulnerabilities and current drivers can support system stability and hardware performance. Some updates may not install if a software maker blocks third-party update initiation or releases updates gradually. The free version is included in Avira Free Security, while Pro is included in Avira Internet Security. Standalone Pro plans are listed for one PC, monthly and annually, but their prices display as “loading...” rather than amounts. The annual plan includes a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Software Updater is a free Windows application that scans installed software, compares versions with a database, and identifies newer releases. Programs needing updates appear in a browser where users can download current versions, choose which updates to install, or skip them. The site says the catalog covers thousands of popular Windows applications, including Chrome, Firefox, Skype, iTunes, and Adobe Reader. A scheduler can run scans automatically in the background, and bulk app updates are supported. The download page lists version 1.18.1122.31 at 5.17MB for PCs running Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, or XP. The maker says updates are checked for malicious threats and that the app has no malware, adware, viruses, bundles, installers, or toolbars. Its EULA licenses one computer and limits use to non-commercial purposes. TouchStoneSoftware.com provides free support. The privacy policy says submitted personal information and non-personal details such as URLs, browser, and IP address are collected.
