Awesome Screenshot

Awesome Screenshot captures screenshots and records screen video and camera footage through browser extensions, web access, and listed Mac, Windows, and iPhone products. Screenshots can include entire pages, be annotated, and be exported as PNG, JPG, or PDF; OCR text extraction is also available. The Mac product records system audio and microphone. Browser add-ons are listed for Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Yandex, and Vivaldi. Users can share screenshots through Facebook, Twitter, or Gmail, and collect feedback through Google Drive, Trello, Slack, or Asana; Trello, Slack, Asana, and Jira are listed as connected tools. The Windows desktop app can save recordings to AwesomeScreenshot.com Cloud or a local computer and is described as having no watermark or ads. The free plan allows up to 100 screenshots and 20 recordings, with recordings capped at 6 hours and 720p. It limits advanced screenshot annotation, advanced recording, and editing and download durations. Basic costs $5/month billed annually or $6/month billed monthly.

Snipping Tool

Snipping Tool is a free Windows utility for capturing screen images and video, then editing, saving, and sharing them. Image captures can use freeform, rectangular, window, or full-screen modes; video snips use a separate overlay. Windows+Shift+S opens image capture, while Windows+Shift+R opens video capture. A delay control provides a one-to-five-second countdown. Image snips support pen, highlighter, shapes, emojis, erasing, and cropping. Text actions use OCR to extract selected or all text and can redact email addresses or phone numbers. Microsoft says recognition runs locally on the device. Captures save automatically to the Screenshots folder, with settings to change saving behavior or the default folder. Recorded video can open in Clipchamp for editing, including captions or audio. The app ships with Windows 10 and Windows 11 and can be obtained from the Microsoft Store if missing. Scrolling capture is not supported.
