| Encryption | Artifacts, caches, logs and test-report data are encrypted at rest with AWS-managed or customer-managed KMS keys, while transport uses TLS and Signature Version 4. | Earthly says databases are encrypted at rest and applications encrypt data in transit using TLS/SSL. |
| Security | CodeBuild integrates with AWS IAM for granular access controls, and build artifacts are encrypted with AWS KMS managed keys or customer managed keys. | Earthly says it has achieved SOC 2 Type II compliance and undergoes independent third-party security assessments. |

In their own words
AWS CodeBuild
AWS CodeBuild is a paid, cloud-hosted continuous integration service for compiling, testing, and packaging code from build scripts. It provisions and scales build capacity automatically, so projects do not require users to manage build servers. Preconfigured environments cover Java, Python, Node.js, Ruby, Go, Android, .NET Core for Linux, and Docker; teams can also supply Docker-based environments. A YAML build specification defines commands for each build phase and other settings. Builds can start from CodeCommit, GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket, Amazon S3, or CodePipeline, and can work with Jenkins. Artifacts can be stored in S3 or sent to an artifact repository. IAM provides access controls, while KMS keys encrypt artifacts. Build timing, status, commit ID, metrics, and logs are available through the service and CloudWatch, with SNS event notifications. A free plan provides stated monthly allowances; paid usage starts at 0.01 USD and can add charges for data transfer and related AWS services.
Earthly
Earthly Lunar monitors software development activity and applies engineering policies across developer and AI workflows. It collects structured metadata from source repositories and CI/CD pipelines, then evaluates it against policies an organization defines. Lunar can be added to existing CI/CD pipelines without YAML changes or wholesale pipeline rewrites. Its guardrails can run while code is authored, on pull requests, and at deployment gates; enforcement can progress from draft and scoring to comments or blocking pull requests and deployments. Earthly lists more than 200 prebuilt guardrails for testing, security, compliance, and operational readiness. The integrations page lists 66 integrations, with Bash-script options for custom collectors and catalogers. Documentation includes a SQL API for engineering data and a CI agent that can run on self-hosted runners and is compatible with major CI vendors. Earthly says its services and databases are hosted on AWS in the United States, data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and it has SOC 2 Type II compliance. Earthfiles, an open-source portable build syntax, remains available. Earthly says the company was founded in 2020 and Lunar launched in 2026.
