In their own words
AWS Data Exchange
AWS Data Exchange is a marketplace for finding, subscribing to, and sharing data products. It has more than 3,500 products from over 300 providers, including over 1,000 free data products and custom data products. Offerings can be delivered as files, through APIs, or as Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3, and AWS Lake Formation data sets; Lake Formation is marked Preview. Data can be exported to S3 and analyzed with Athena or Redshift, or used with SageMaker, EMR, Glue, and Lake Formation. CloudWatch Events can retrieve new data-set revisions to S3 automatically. The service encrypts data in transit with SSL/TLS and at rest with server-side encryption, and CloudTrail integration supports API-call auditing. Providers can offer free or paid subscriptions lasting 1 to 36 months, with private offers allowing customized terms. Prices for paid products are set by providers, and subscribers may also incur standard S3 transfer charges and costs for AWS services used to store, process, or analyze data. Public Open Data on AWS products can be accessed with or without an AWS account.
Liberbyte Data Exchange
Liberbyte Data Exchange, delivered as bytEM, is a federated implementation of the OUDEA data exchange architecture. It is designed to let organizations identify, discover, reference, resolve, and exchange governed data entities across independent systems without requiring a central data platform. The workflow is Search → Find → Exchange, with references connecting related entities. The architecture supports indexing entities, resolving current access, and transferring governed data. Liberbyte describes its data management approach as combining governance and business requirements through metadata and flexible processing, and presents controlled publication and exchange as a way to create data products and commercial data services. OUDEA v0.1 uses Matrix federation as its initial protocol substrate, and the public installer includes Matrix Synapse. The first public bytEM instance and live data index is cities.app; environment.app and legalentities.app are available through cooperation rather than unrestricted public access. The public installer repository is under AGPL-3.0 and requires a Linux host with Docker Engine and the docker compose plugin. The bytEM core is privately maintained, with source access available by request under a cooperation agreement. Pricing is on request.
