Overview

GoAnywhere MFT is a managed file-transfer platform for organizations coordinating sensitive files across systems and teams. It is best suited to mid-market and enterprise operations with varied transfer protocols, complex workflows, or deployment requirements. Its breadth is compelling for that work, but component-based, quote-driven licensing makes it harder to budget before a sales discussion.

Transfers, file sharing, secure FTP, and automation share one interface. That consolidation can simplify oversight when exchanges are frequent and consequential; teams with only occasional, uncomplicated transfers may be paying for operational scope they do not need.

Key features

Workflow tools combine more than 60 tasks with a scheduler, monitored folders, and event-driven automation. Teams can coordinate repeatable, multi-step exchanges rather than handling each transfer in isolation. The trade-off is complexity: the platform is most valuable when workflows genuinely need orchestration.

Protocols include SFTP, SCP, FTP, FTPS, HTTP(S), PeSIT, AS2, AS3, AS4, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, REST, and SOAP. The standard license permits connections to an unlimited number of SFTP, SCP, FTP/s, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, and POP3 servers, which is useful for organizations managing many endpoints. AS2 licensing is based on trading partners, so organizations with extensive partner networks should account for that pricing basis.

Cloud Connectors integrate with services including SharePoint, Salesforce, and Dropbox; the connector marketplace includes APIs for Jenkins, JIRA, Trello, Zendesk, and Google Cloud Storage. This can help connect transfers to existing business systems, though licensing and configuration remain important parts of evaluating the overall deployment.

Files are protected at rest and in motion with FIPS 140-2 validated AES encryption, and role-based permissions provide a way to control access. Centralized logging, audit trails, and reporting support oversight and can help organizations address requirements including HIPAA, PCI DSS, and GDPR. GoAnywhere lists SOC 2 Type 2 and Drummond among its certifications, and says MFTaaS has met Type 2 SOC 2 requirements.

Clustering supports load balancing and active-active automatic failover for disaster recovery. That is a meaningful continuity option for transfer operations that cannot simply pause during an outage; a disaster recovery machine requires a separate discounted license, which adds cost to that resilience strategy.

Pricing

GoAnywhere MFT has custom pricing, with a 30-day trial and no free plan. The product is licensed by module or server component per instance; Secure Mail and GoDrive use user-based pricing, while AS2 is priced by trading partner. This structure can align cost with deployment choices, but makes the price depend on the components and usage model an organization needs. The standard license's unlimited connections to specified server types is useful for endpoint growth, but it does not remove the separate disaster-recovery license requirement.

There are no published seat or storage quotas to compare, and the trial is the only stated no-cost evaluation option. Buyers should map required modules, instances, user-based products, AS2 partners, and disaster-recovery machines before comparing quotes.

Platforms

Supported platforms are API, iOS, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows. Deployment can be on premises, in the cloud, in hybrid environments, or through MFT as a Service. That range suits organizations combining local systems with cloud services, while API access supports integration into broader operations.

Who it's for

GoAnywhere MFT is a strong candidate for mid-market and enterprise teams that move sensitive data through multiple protocols, partners, and systems, especially when auditability, automation, and deployment flexibility matter together. It is less compelling for small teams with simple transfer needs or buyers who need predictable, publicly priced plans before engaging a vendor. Professional services cover training, project consulting, integration and configuration, upgrades and conversions, and migration assistance—useful support for substantial implementations, but another consideration for organizations planning a complex rollout.

Pros and cons

Pro: More than 60 workflow tasks, scheduling, monitored folders, and event-driven automation support repeatable transfer processes rather than isolated exchanges.
Pro: Broad protocol coverage and unlimited connections to several server types under the standard license suit organizations with many endpoints.
Pro: On-premises, cloud, hybrid, and MFTaaS deployment choices, together with active-active failover, accommodate varied infrastructure and continuity needs.
Con: Module- or component-based quotes, user-based pricing for Secure Mail and GoDrive, and partner-based AS2 licensing make total cost difficult to forecast without scoping the deployment.
Con: A disaster recovery machine requires a separate license, so high availability adds to the purchase.
Con: Its extensive workflow and deployment scope may be unnecessary overhead for straightforward file exchange.

Alternatives

For buyers weighing other transfer tools, Managed File Transfer Software, Secure File Transfer Software, and File transfer services provide category comparisons.

CompleteFTP is worth considering when a free plan and a published one-time Standard price matter; its Free plan includes FTP/FTPS, a virtual file system, and unlimited users, with a stated limitation for non-Windows users.
Files.com may suit buyers who prefer a published monthly starting plan: Starter costs 199.00 USD per month and includes 10 Full Users, 50 System Users, two outbound connections, and 1 TB monthly storage.
Serv-U FTP Server is a more narrowly framed alternative with a stated plan at 55.00 USD per month, billed annually, including 250 user accounts and 100 concurrent sessions.
Serv-U Managed File Transfer Server is another paid MFT option, with a stated 335.00 USD per month per-server plan.
Fortra ZTNA is another quote-priced product to consider.
Progress MOVEit Transfer offers trial access through its product page.
SFTPPlus may appeal to buyers who prefer a one-time license: its file-transfer server with MFT capabilities is 1900.00 USD per once.
Globalscape EFT offers Core Server and Collaboration bundles with pricing by quote.

Verdict

Choose GoAnywhere MFT if your mid-market or enterprise team needs to coordinate sensitive transfers across diverse protocols, workflows, and deployment environments, with audit capabilities and high-availability options in the same platform. The principal reason to look elsewhere is cost clarity: its component-based quote and separate disaster-recovery licensing make it a less straightforward choice for buyers seeking a simple, predictable plan.
