In their own words
Bandcamp
Bandcamp is an online record store and music community where fans discover artists, follow their work, and support them directly. Artists can run customizable stores selling digital music and physical merchandise. Free fan accounts include playlists, wishlists, artist following, a music feed, a customizable collection page, and high-quality downloads of purchases. The free iOS and Android apps stream purchased music and support queues, playlists, and offline listening. Artists can also set monthly or annual subscriptions that offer releases, catalog items, subscriber-only music or merchandise, or community access. Bandcamp charges 15% on digital items and 10% on physical goods. The digital fee drops to 10% after $5,000 in sales if the artist maintains at least $5,000 in sales over the past 12 months. Pro for Artists costs $10 a month and includes Shopify inventory integration, batch uploads, private streams via links, and uploads up to 2 GB per track. Label Accounts start at $20 a month. Playlists are in beta and require a fan account; sampling unowned tracks is limited by artist settings, three plays by default.
Gumroad
Gumroad is a platform for selling digital products and services such as books, memberships, and courses. Memberships can provide a content library with billing periods including monthly, quarterly, biannually, and yearly. Digital product support includes PDF, ePub, and Mobi versions, plus generated software license keys and lightweight DRM. Creators can import email lists, export follower and customer details, send broadcasts, and create automated workflows. Sales analytics and tracking support Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, and TikTok Pixel. Gumroad also provides an API and buyer apps for Android and iOS. Payout methods vary by country; direct deposit or PayPal may be available. The maker says it handles worldwide sales-tax collection and remittance as merchant of record. Direct sales cost 10% + $0.50 per transaction; Discover sales to new customers cost 30% per transaction.
