Overview

BARBER-OS brings appointment booking, payments and shop administration together for independent barbers and multi-person shops. It is most compelling when a business wants booking and retail operations in one system; the transaction charge and the gap between its free booking tier and paid plans are worth weighing against that convenience.

Its reach extends from scheduling and point of sale to staff management, inventory and client marketing. Admin, POS and walk-in kiosk apps are offered for iOS and Android alongside the web product.

Key features

Booking and marketing

Customizable online booking and appointment scheduling cover the core appointment workflow. The plan comparison also includes client and appointment automations, two-way messaging, campaigns, discounts, loyalty programs, reviews and gift cards. Google Booking and a Google Book Online Button provide additional booking routes; Google and Meta Pixel tracking support campaign measurement. This breadth may help a shop keep client outreach close to its booking system, though businesses that only need a calendar may not benefit from the wider toolkit.

Payments and retail

Integrated payments cover online and in-person transactions, with advertised processing starting at 2.2% + $0.20 per payment. That per-transaction cost should be part of the budget, especially for businesses that process many payments. The dashboard tracks products, retail sales and stock orders in real time, making the POS and inventory tools relevant to shops selling products as well as services.

Staff and shop operations

Listed shop tools include team scheduling, employee management, permissions, compensation, pay runs, commissions and tip splitting. Multi-location and payroll management are also included among plan comparison features. For an owner coordinating staff and compensation, this is a more complete proposition than booking alone; a solo operator may have little need for much of it.

Clip AI and add-ons

Clip AI is intended to automate booking and rescheduling, answer client questions, provide business insights and handle calls, but it is marked as coming soon. The pricing page also offers Clip AI communication as an add-on, so buyers should not treat the advertised AI capabilities as a currently available workflow. Other add-ons are a custom branded app at $79 per month and a walk-in management kiosk at $49 per month; each add-on entry shows a 30-day free trial. The Clip AI communication add-on is $89 per month.

Pricing

The free Online Booking Plan is $0.00 USD per month and is described as core online booking and scheduling for barbers. It is a sensible starting point for operators who mainly need an online appointment route, but the plan description does not promise the broader shop-management features.

The Solo Plan costs $29.00 USD per month and is aimed at single operators renting a chair or running their own studio. It includes a 7-day free trial. This is the entry paid option for a barber who wants to move beyond the free booking tier, though the plan comparison details do not establish which specific listed tools are included at this level.

The Elite Plan (Shop) costs $89.00 USD per month, with a 7-day free trial, and targets barbershop and salon owners managing a team. Its displayed price also shows $599 alongside $89 per month, so buyers should confirm the applicable charge before subscribing. The team-oriented positioning makes it the plan to consider for a staffed shop, but it is a substantial step up from Solo.

The product is freemium, with paid plans from $29 per month. Payment processing is a separate variable cost, starting at 2.2% + $0.20 per payment. The branded app, Clip AI communication and walk-in kiosk are separately priced add-ons, so the total can rise for shops needing those capabilities.

Platforms

BARBER-OS runs on web, Android and iOS. Its Admin, POS and walk-in kiosk apps have download links for Apple App Store and Google Play. A client mobile app is also identified as a capability.

Who it's for

Independent barbers who need online booking and a shop managing appointments, payments, product sales and staff are the clearest fits. The free tier suits a booking-first start; the Solo plan is positioned for one-person businesses, while the Elite plan is aimed at teams and shop owners. It is less suited to buyers seeking only basic appointment scheduling if payment charges, paid add-ons or the broader shop-management proposition are unnecessary.

Pros and cons

Pro: Booking, POS, inventory and staff tools sit within one product, which can reduce the need to manage separate systems for appointments and retail operations.
Pro: A free booking plan gives solo barbers a no-cost way to start with scheduling.
Pro: Marketing features include messaging, campaigns, loyalty, reviews and gift cards, alongside Google booking integrations.
Con: Payments carry a stated starting fee of 2.2% + $0.20 per transaction, adding a cost beyond the subscription.
Con: The free plan is described around booking and scheduling, while the team-oriented paid plan starts at $89.00 USD per month.
Con: Clip AI is coming soon, and the $89-per-month communication add-on should not be mistaken for currently available AI automation.
Con: The Elite pricing display includes both $89 and $599 per month, making confirmation prudent before purchase.

Alternatives

Kassly is worth considering for a business that prioritizes a free POS: its free plan includes one branch, two users, 50 products, basic inventory and reports, and offline mode. Barbería Club suits a small barber operation that can work within a free cap of 30 bookings monthly, one barber and two services, with WhatsApp notification to the barber and schedule blocking.

Salonist offers a free marketplace-listing tier capped at 50 appointments a month, with online booking, scheduling and staff shifts; its Essential plan is $59.00 USD per month. ParallelPOS is a paid alternative at $149.99 USD per month per location, with POS, inventory, HR, expenses, reports, CRM and 24/7 tech support copilot.

Pronto has a free plan with one staff member, 100 clients, 50 bookings per month and 100 products, making its stated caps useful to compare with BARBER-OS's free booking tier. GlossGenius is a paid option at $28.00 USD per month, with a custom booking website, unlimited client notifications, email and text marketing, and inventory and retail features.

Apoynt is another paid booking option, with a £14.99-per-month Starter plan for two staff, one calendar and one location. Barberia.io has a 49.00 BRL-per-month Iniciante plan for one professional, unlimited bookings and services, and a product catalog of up to 10 items.

Verdict

BARBER-OS is a strong fit for a barber or shop owner who wants booking tied to payments, inventory and staff administration, with marketing tools on hand as the business grows. The free booking tier lowers the barrier to entry, but payment fees and the higher shop-plan price matter once the business needs more than scheduling. Choose it for the breadth of shop operations; look elsewhere if a narrower booking tool or a free POS with explicit caps better matches the way the business runs.
