In their own words
Battle.net
Battle.net is a free game launcher and companion app for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. The desktop app gathers games in one library, launches them, and installs games and patches; while running, it can keep them updated automatically. Players can browse the store for games and expansions, send digital gifts, and find free-to-play titles including Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Games and some in-game purchases may cost extra. Social features include messaging, voice chat, friend connections, and real-time updates. News includes sales, trailers, and patch notes. The mobile app supports shopping, social features, news, and account safety, including chat, friend presence, and friend requests. Users can enable two-factor authentication. Offline mode works only in selected games: downloads and updates need an internet connection, and social features and matchmaking are unavailable offline. World of Warcraft versions and game modes are installed through the desktop app.
GamersGate
GamersGate is a digital games distributor selling official PC game keys. Its catalogue includes thousands of AAA and indie games from publishing partners, with selections for Mac and Linux as well as PC titles. Most games activate through Steam, Epic Games Store or Rockstar Social Club, while some are DRM-free. The site also provides activation instructions for Origin and Ubisoft Connect. Download and installation limits vary with a game's copy protection: DRM-free and certain Steam, Epic or Uplay titles can be installed repeatedly as the game permits, while SecuRom, Starforce and other protection tools may impose limits. The website works on GNU/Linux, and many Windows game versions can run through Wine. GamersGate says it works with verified, licensed publishers rather than grey-market sources and receives game files directly from publishers. Support is available through an online form, and a Downloader help section covers backups, login, speed, storage and connection issues. The company traces its origins to 2004 and is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
