In their own words
BBC Bitesize
BBC Bitesize is a free learning resource for primary, secondary and post-16 students, with curriculum-linked study materials, careers advice and support for formal education. Its GCSE and Scottish revision collections include quizzes, study guides and content based on past papers. The web resource and mobile app cover Android and iOS; the app includes flashcards, quizzes, videos and revision guides for GCSE, TGAU, Scottish Nationals and Highers. A personalised learning tool builds and adjusts a study plan from quiz results, while tracking topic progress and weekly counts of questions answered and lessons completed. That tool is currently limited to GCSE AQA physics and requires a free BBC account. Questions are generated using AI tools and educational experts, then checked by subject experts. Learner activity and answers are used for personalisation, not marketing or behaviour change; personalisation is off by default for accounts belonging to under-13s. The Free plan costs nothing; no subscription or payment is required.
Study Rocket
Study Rocket is a study-content website for secondary-level qualifications, including GCSE and A-level. Its library also lists iGCSE, IB, AP, vocational and other qualifications across multiple exam boards, with material spanning subjects and including literature analysis. The company says teachers write the content and describes it as up to date for 2023/24 exams. Study Rocket’s content is free to use, and the service is available on the web and iOS. The site remains open while the company shifts its focus to Adapt, a separate revision timetable app described as making a GCSE or A-level study plan for each student. Study Rocket does not offer practice questions. Its privacy notice says it may collect contact and account details, education information, preferences, and device or usage diagnostics, but not sensitive personal data such as health or racial or ethnic information. It describes security measures and safeguards for personal information that may be stored outside the EU.
