| CLI platforms | The local-tunnel CLI documentation lists Windows, macOS and Linux support, with macOS ARM64 and x64 binaries. | Microcks CLI binaries are available for Linux, macOS and Windows, and the CLI is also distributed as a container image. |
| Mocking | Users can create no-code mocks with request matching rules and customize response status codes, headers, and bodies. | It can reuse examples, generate realistic examples, and transform mock data and responses on the fly. |
| Protocols | It supports HTTP, HTTPS, HTTP/2, mTLS, REST/OpenAPI, SOAP, GraphQL, and gRPC. | It supports OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, gRPC/Protobuf, GraphQL and SOAP. |
| Security | Beeceptor states that it is SOC 2 Type II audited, adheres to ISO 27001, and is GDPR compliant; it says data is encrypted in transit and at rest. | Microcks uses Keycloak for identity, authentication, permissions, and API endpoint protection, with OpenID Connect for user authentication. |

In their own words
Beeceptor
Beeceptor is a developer-focused API simulation platform for mocking services, virtualizing them, testing contracts, and simulating failures. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, HTTP/2, mTLS, REST/OpenAPI, SOAP, GraphQL, and gRPC. Users can build no-code mocks with request-matching rules and set response status codes, headers, and bodies. Uploading an OpenAPI specification can create a populated mock server with AI-generated data. Beeceptor can proxy requests to live backends, record traffic, and switch to mock behavior when a backend is unavailable. Latency, timeouts, and errors can be simulated to check client resilience. Its CLI exposes a localhost service through a public HTTPS URL and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Management APIs support mock-server configuration, while MCP connectivity supports AI agents including Claude and Cursor. API Connections store OAuth credentials and generate tokens for outbound requests. Beeceptor says it is SOC 2 Type II audited, adheres to ISO 27001, and complies with GDPR; it also says data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The free plan has public endpoints, a 1 MB request payload limit, and cleanup rules for unclaimed endpoints.
Microcks
Microcks is an open-source tool for mocking and testing APIs and microservices. It works with OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, gRPC/Protobuf, GraphQL schemas, and SOAP, and can build mock responses from examples, generate realistic data, or alter mock data and responses dynamically. It also checks provider and consumer contracts against live implementations and specification versions, and automates checks in CI/CD pipelines with integrations for GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, and Tekton. Containerized deployment supports on-premises, cloud, and developer-laptop use; its Uber distribution is intended for laptop work and unit tests, using ephemeral in-memory MongoDB. The free, community marketplace for API mocks and test suites is enabled by default. Microcks is a CNCF incubating project, with a listed price of free. The public demo is read-only and cannot import APIs or change artifacts. Documentation cautions against production use of the all-managed Kubernetes setup because its single Keycloak and MongoDB instances are not tuned for scalability or security best practices.
