Overview

HiPDF is an online PDF toolkit that brings conversion, document management, OCR and AI tools together. It is best suited to people who handle varied PDF tasks in a browser and want OCR or batch processing in the same service. The free tier is useful for smaller files; paid plans raise the file cap to 100 MB, but short-access offers renew automatically unless cancelled.

Key features

Conversion and document management

HiPDF converts files to PDF and PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, image, HTML and text formats. Its broader target list includes DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, EPUB, RTF and Publisher. OCR can turn scanned PDFs into editable Word documents, and batch conversion is available. That breadth is useful for mixed document workflows; the 20 MB free-conversion cap makes the free option less suitable for larger files.

The service also covers editing, merging, compression, splitting, image extraction, page rearrangement, protection, unlocking, redaction, signing and sharing. A DOC-to-PDF workflow can open files from Dropbox or cloud storage and save the converted PDF to the cloud. HiPDF says uploaded files are permanently deleted within 60 minutes after processing. It also says it is a PDF Association member and cites ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications.

AI and API

AI tools include Chat with PDF, translation, proofreading, AI detection, mind maps, reading, rewriting, explanations and question answering. This makes the Advanced plans a better fit than Basic for readers who want document analysis as well as conversion. API subscriptions and prepaid pricing are available, with custom or high-volume plans by quote; the API page says the first 200 files per month are free for monthly and annual subscribers.

Pricing

HiPDF has a free plan with limited access to most PDF and image tools; its converter allows files up to 20 MB. That is a sensible starting point for occasional, small conversions, but not a substitute for the larger file allowance and batch processing on paid plans.

Basic: 39.95 USD per year, billed annually. Includes web access, OCR, batch processing, files up to 100 MB and 2,000 pages per file. It suits recurring conversion and OCR work without AI tools.
Advanced: 69.95 USD per year, billed annually. Adds AI PDF tools to the Basic allowances, making it the more suitable annual plan for readers who also want document chat and analysis.
AI monthly: 3.99 USD per month, billed monthly, with web access, AI PDF tools and 1,000 uses. It offers AI access without an annual term, but does not include the stated Basic conversion allowances.
Basic Plan: 39.95 USD per year, billed per year, with 100 MB files, 2,000 pages per file, 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses.
Advanced Plan: 69.95 USD per year, billed per year, with the same file and page caps and 1,000 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 1,000 AI Detector uses. These usage allowances make the distinction between the two annual plan descriptions important for AI-heavy work.
Basic 7-Day Access: 0.95 USD per once, with 2,000 pages, 100 MB files, unlimited batch processing, PDF editing and download tools. After 7 days, it automatically renews at US$ 39.95 per year.
Advanced 7-Day Access: 1.95 USD per once, includes Basic features plus Chat with PDF, AI Reader and AI Detector. After 7 days, it automatically renews at US$ 69.95 per year. These are short trials, not a low-cost ongoing option.
HiPDF API Subscription: 28.00 USD per month. The first 200 files per month are free for monthly and annual subscribers; custom or high-volume plans are available by quote.

The AI Monthly Plan is also described as automatically renewing monthly, with cancellation at any time. Expert support is available through live chat and email responses within 24 hours. No seat allowance is stated, so the listed plans are best assessed as individual web options rather than team licenses.

Platforms

HiPDF is available on the web and also lists Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, browser extension and API support. The web interface is the clearest fit for users who want to avoid installing software; the API option serves workflows that need programmatic access.

Who it's for

HiPDF is a good match for individuals who regularly convert, organize or OCR PDFs and value having batch work and AI tools in one service. It is less compelling for people who only need occasional large-file conversion on a free plan, or who need a clearly stated team-seat allowance.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad document coverage: conversion, editing, organization and OCR address more than one narrow PDF task.
Batch processing and OCR: useful for repeated conversions and scanned documents, with paid plans allowing files up to 100 MB and 2,000 pages.
Cloud workflow: Dropbox or cloud storage can be used to open DOC files and save converted PDFs.
Deletion and security claims: HiPDF says uploads are deleted within 60 minutes and cites ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications.

Cons

Free file cap: the converter's 20 MB limit rules out larger jobs unless you move to a paid plan.
Renewing short-access options: both 7-day offers automatically renew at annual prices after the trial period.
Different AI allowances: annual plan descriptions give Basic 50 and Advanced 1,000 uses for named AI tools, while the AI monthly option has 1,000 uses; readers should choose according to actual AI demand.

Alternatives

LightPDF is worth considering if you want a freemium service with a free web plan, but its free tier has a 10 MB file cap, five cloud files for one year and three AI Agent questions per day.

PDF Candy may suit users who want web and desktop access across more operating systems; its free plan has page and hourly restrictions, no batch processing and limited file size.

PDF24 Compare PDF is a free alternative when a no-limits, no-registration, ad-supported option is the priority.

Smallpdf offers a seven-day free trial and 30 tools available for free, making it an option for readers comparing a different freemium toolset.

PDF4me Merge & Split is an alternative for API use, with a free tier that requires no credit card but limits calls.

AvePDF offers more than 50 document tools on its free plan, but limits processing to two operations per six hours, ten files per processing and 128 MB per file.

iLovePDF is another freemium PDF service.

Sejda PDF Editor is another freemium PDF editor.

Verdict

Choose HiPDF if you want a broad browser-based PDF workspace with OCR, batch conversion and optional AI tools. Its main advantage is that it brings those tasks under one service; look elsewhere if the 20 MB free cap is too small, if you need clearly defined team seats, or if automatic renewal on a short-access offer is not acceptable.
