Overview

Bigjpg applies deep convolutional neural networks to user-provided images, enlarging them while reducing noise and compression artifacts and enhancing detail and sharpness. Its 2x–16x scale and None-to-Highest noise-reduction controls give users room to tailor the result. The trade-off is that the free plan stops at 4x and a 5MB upload, so larger files and stronger enlargement require a paid plan.

Key features

Batch processing and API

Batch processing is available, but the free plan excludes both batch mode and parallel enlarging. Paid members can use the API for uploads, enlargement, result queries and task retries. That makes Bigjpg more suitable for recurring workflows than for users who only need to enlarge an image occasionally.

Privacy and processing

Bigjpg says uploaded images are used to provide the requested enhancement, are not shown publicly, and are automatically deleted within 24 hours for free accounts or 72 hours for premium accounts. It says uploads are not used to train or improve models without explicit, informed consent. Communications use TLS 1.2 or higher, and stored data and backups are encrypted. Bigjpg does not directly store payment-card information, instead using PCI DSS-compliant payment processors.

One practical constraint depends on account status: users who are not logged in must keep the browser open during processing or the enlarged image will be lost. Logged-in users can close it because offline enlarging is supported.

Pricing

The Free Plan is free and allows 20 pictures per month, with slow speed, shared-server processing, a 5MB upload limit and 4x maximum enlargement. Offline enlarging is included, but there is no parallel enlarging or batch mode. It suits light use on smaller files, not high-volume work.

All paid plans are one-time payments for a fixed term rather than ongoing monthly subscriptions. Basic costs 6.00 USD per month, billed 2 Months, and provides 500 pictures per month, a 50MB upload limit and 16x maximum enlargement for two months. It is the lowest-cost route to larger uploads and stronger scaling, but its quota and term are the smallest among the paid options.

Standard costs 12.00 USD per month, billed 6 Months, for 1,000 pictures per month, 50MB uploads and 16x enlargement over six months. It doubles Basic’s monthly quota for a longer term. Premium costs 22.00 USD per month, billed 12 Months, for 2,000 pictures per month with the same upload and scaling limits over twelve months. It fits sustained, higher-volume use; the greater quota is the main reason to choose it over Standard.

Platforms

Bigjpg is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and the web, and offers API access. Desktop apps make it an option for users who prefer not to work solely in a browser, while the API serves integrations and automated workflows.

Who it's for

Bigjpg is a reasonable fit for people enlarging both photographs and artwork who want to adjust noise reduction, and for paid users handling batches or integrating image enlargement through an API. The free plan can cover occasional small jobs. Users who need more than 20 images a month, uploads beyond 5MB or enlargement above 4x will need a paid plan; those who do not want a fixed-term payment should weigh that commitment before choosing one.

Pros and cons

Pros: Adjustable 2x–16x enlargement and noise reduction suit images that need different levels of cleanup.
Pros: Paid plans raise the upload cap to 50MB and include up to 2,000 pictures per month, with batch processing and API access for repeat work.
Pros: Bigjpg says uploads are not public and are deleted within 24 hours on free accounts or 72 hours on premium accounts.
Cons: The free plan allows just 20 pictures per month, 5MB uploads and 4x enlargement, with no batch or parallel processing.
Cons: Paid plans require one-time payment for a fixed two-, six- or twelve-month term, rather than a flexible monthly subscription.
Cons: Unlogged users must keep the browser open during processing to avoid losing the enlarged image.

Alternatives

For a free, open-source option, Real-ESRGAN is worth considering; it supports Linux, macOS, self-hosted use, web and Windows. If a permanently free, MIT-licensed tool with no subscription or trial limit matters most, NextGenUp is another option, with Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web and Windows support.

Imglarger has a free plan with 100 credits per month, one image at a time, a 1024px maximum input side and 2X scaling; its $9.99 per mo Premium plan may suit users who want a different credit-based service. PixelPanda Image Upscaler offers one-time credit purchases, including 10 credits for 1.99 USD per month and 50 credits for 10.00 USD per month, for users who prefer no subscription. Adima Image Upscaler Pro is an Android and Windows alternative with a free plan that includes 20 free 4x upscales and batch upscale.

Cutout.Pro, LetsEnhance and Upscale.media are also alternatives to compare.

Verdict

Choose Bigjpg if you want image enlargement with adjustable cleanup and expect to use batch processing, an API or higher paid-plan limits. Its free tier is useful only for modest jobs, and the fixed-term payment structure is a reason to look elsewhere if you want a flexible subscription or need neither its workflow features nor its larger quotas.
