Overview

BigRoad ELD combines driver hours-of-service logs with fleet tracking, communications and violation notifications. It suits North American owner-operators and fleet businesses that want those workflows alongside engine-connected logging. Required hardware and custom pricing make it a poor fit for drivers looking for a standalone app or a clear upfront cost.

DashLink connects to a vehicle’s diagnostic port and sends engine data to the mobile app over Bluetooth. BigRoad says its ELD is registered on the FMCSA list and certified by FPInnovations for Canadian ELD use. Offline logging is supported, but drivers still need a suitable mobile data plan for regular use.

Key features

Logging and inspections

Drivers can edit log events within regulatory limits, then must recertify the day. That permits corrections without making them consequence-free: recertification is part of the process. Roadside inspection mode lets drivers show logs or send them to safety officials, a useful workflow for operators who need to handle inspections from the app.

Fleet operations

The web app adds fleet tracking, communications and violation notifications for managers. Bundle choices extend beyond logging: the DashLink ELD Bundle includes vehicle mileage reporting, live messaging, IFTA mileage reporting and fuel tax reporting. Fleet Insights Advanced adds GPS tracking, driving behavior monitoring and safety dashboards alongside ELD and IFTA mileage reporting. Businesses wanting camera-based oversight can consider the Insights Solution Suite, which includes an AI dual-facing dash cam, video telematics, event recording, driver coaching and a DVIR app.

BigRoad provides training material for enabling access for third-party software integrations. Support is available around the clock by phone and email. Its privacy policy describes restricted access to personal information and security procedures, while acknowledging that absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Pricing

BigRoad is paid, with custom pricing. The DashLink ELD Bundle is the more focused choice for operators who need ELD logging, mileage and fuel-tax reporting, and live messaging. Fleet Insights Advanced suits fleets that also want vehicle GPS tracking and driving behavior monitoring. The Insights Solution Suite is the broadest of the three described bundles, aimed at fleets seeking video telematics, event recording, driver coaching and a DVIR app.

All three bundles use custom pricing, so the right choice depends on which operational tools the business needs and the quote it receives. A free trial is available. No seat limits, trial length or renewal terms are provided in these plans; the bundle descriptions do not give a basis for comparing per-driver or per-vehicle cost.

Platforms

BigRoad offers Android, iOS and web access. The mobile app runs on Android 8 or later and iOS 12.0 or later smartphones and tablets; it cannot be used on a laptop. Drivers operating only in the U.S. or Canada should have at least 500 MB of data, while cross-border travel with roaming calls for at least 1 GB. That makes the mobile device and data connection part of the operating setup, in addition to the required DashLink hardware.

Who it's for

BigRoad is aimed at owner-operators and fleet-owning businesses across North America. It is strongest for operators who want driver logs, inspection workflows and fleet tools together, and can accommodate required vehicle hardware and custom pricing. Drivers who want only a mobile logbook, or buyers who need a published price before evaluating a system, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Engine-connected ELD logging, offline logging and inspection mode bring together core driver workflows, including the ability to show or send logs to officials.
Pros: Web-based tracking, communications and violation notifications extend the product to fleet managers, with bundles for mileage, fuel-tax reporting, safety monitoring and video telematics.
Pros: Support is available 24/7 by phone and email, useful for drivers and fleets operating beyond standard business hours.
Cons: DashLink hardware is required, so this is not a standalone app choice.
Cons: Custom pricing across the described bundles makes cost comparisons difficult before requesting a quote.
Cons: Mobile use requires a supported smartphone or tablet and a suitable data plan; the app does not run on a laptop.

Alternatives

Blue Ink Tech BIT ELD is a better fit for buyers who want a stated monthly price: its BIT ELD Monthly subscription costs 30.00 USD per month and includes HOS logs, DVIRs, IFTA miles, an app, web portal and U.S.-based support, with no contract and cancellation anytime.

Conti-GO is worth considering when asset tracking is the priority: its Cutting Edge Asset Trackers plan costs 12.00 USD per month and includes installation, insurance-rate and support claims, with no contracts and a free trial.

HOS247 ELD may suit buyers seeking a lower stated ELD subscription: its ELD Compliance plan costs 19.00 USD per month per vehicle and includes a free logging device with annual service, an electronic logbook, electronic DVIR and fleet manager portal.

TruckingOffice offers an ELD Monthly Subscription at 23.00 USD per month, with a truck data reader shown at 125 USD one time; its FAQ also says $20/mo/truck, so buyers should clarify the applicable price.

Transflo Mobile+ ELD is an alternative for fleets or brokers that can provide the required authorization and Fleet or Broker ID.

Ezlogz ELD is another paid option, with a plan description that includes a free load board, AI truck navigation, electronic DVIR, real-time GPS tracking and 24/7 support.

FleetUp ELD is an alternative for buyers comparing Safety & Compliance plans priced by vehicle-count band, including plans for 0 to 49 and 50 to 250 vehicles.

Geotab is a broader alternative whose GO Plan description includes HOS/ELD and tachograph compliance alongside safety, maintenance and fuel features.

Verdict

Choose BigRoad if you are a North American owner-operator or fleet that wants engine-connected ELD logging, inspection workflows and fleet-management tools in one system. Its combination of offline logging, driver workflows and fleet bundles is the main reason to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if required hardware is a dealbreaker or you need transparent pricing before requesting a quote.
