In their own words

BillingEngine

BillingEngine is cloud invoicing and accounting software for freelancers and small businesses. It creates electronic invoices in ZUGFeRD and XRechnung formats compliant with EN 16931, and every plan includes an unlimited email inbox for incoming e-invoices. Accepted quotes can become invoices, and reminders can be sent at several dunning levels. Receipt recognition extracts amount, date, tax rate and supplier, then matches receipts to expenses. Users can export data in DATEV, CSV, XLS, XML or PDF formats; listed integrations include DATEV export and a REST API for customers, invoices and payments. The free plan allows three invoices, three quotes and three receipts per month for one user. Basic costs €6 a month plus VAT and allows 30 of each document type monthly for two users. Premium costs €12 a month plus VAT and provides unlimited invoices, quotes and receipts for five users. BillingEngine says data is encrypted in transit, stored on servers in Germany and archived in a GoBD-compliant manner.

Domibus

Domibus is the European Commission’s sample implementation of an eDelivery AS4 Access Point. It enables organizations to exchange documents and data through interoperable nodes across public or private networks. eDelivery specifications use digital signatures and encryption for integrity and confidentiality, with a digitally signed receipt required for each message. The REST Plugin provides an authenticated OpenAPI interface, webhook notifications, and message resend or download workflows. Default Web Service, File System, and JMS plugins are listed in Jakarta EE 8 and Jakarta EE 10 variants. Version 5.2.1.3, released on 11 September 2026, is identified as the latest security patch. Domibus supports Tomcat 10.1, WebLogic 14.1.2, and WildFly 37.0.x, plus MySQL 8 or Oracle 19c and Java 21 options. It is free, open source, self-hosted, and available through an on-premise deployment model.
