Overview

Bitly turns long web addresses into short links that redirect to their destination, with custom domains and branded back-halves for recognizable URLs. Users can update destinations, schedule link expiration, and direct visitors by country, region, device, or platform. The dashboard combines link, geography, referrer, device, and campaign data, with UTMs for campaign tracking.

The product also covers dynamic QR Codes, bulk creation, and connections to more than 60 marketplace integrations, including Canva, HubSpot, Shopify, and Claude. Founded in 2008, Bitly is headquartered in New York.

Key features

Routing, links, and QR Codes

Country-, region-, device-, and platform-based routing is useful for campaigns that need to send different audiences to relevant destinations. Editable links and scheduled expiration add control after publication. Dynamic QR Codes can be customized, updated, and downloaded as PNG, JPEG, or SVG files; monthly allowances vary by plan, so high-volume print campaigns may need a paid tier.

Measurement and integrations

Analytics cover geography, referrers, devices, dashboards, campaign performance, and UTMs. Retention ranges from 30 days on Core to 120 days on Growth, one year on Premium, and two years on Enterprise. That makes Core adequate for near-term reporting, but a poor fit if teams need to compare campaigns over longer periods.

Bitly links use HTTPS encryption, and the service scans links when they are created and uses an Abuse API to identify harmful URLs. Its compliance certifications include GDPR, CCPA, and SOC 2 Type 2. Enterprise adds high-volume API and webhook access; API access is also a general product capability.

Pricing

Bitly has a free plan and paid subscriptions. Subscriptions renew automatically monthly or annually according to the payment plan. The free plan requires no credit card or commitment; paid plan terms and quotas differ substantially.

Free — free: 5 links and 2 QR Codes per month, plus 3 custom back-halves per month. Links get unlimited clicks and never expire. This is useful for occasional personal or small-scale work, but the small creation allowance rules it out for regular campaigns.
Core — 10.00 USD per month (annual charge of $120; annual plan only): 100 links, 5 QR Codes, and 5 redirects per month, with 30 days of analytics retention. It is the entry paid tier for steady but modest activity; annual billing and limited history are trade-offs.
Growth — 2934835.00 USD per month (monthly billing; annual or monthly plan): 500 links, 10 QR Codes, and 20 redirects per month, with 120 days of analytics retention. Its higher quotas suit more frequent campaigns, though the price shown makes it difficult to recommend on cost.
Premium — 300.00 USD per month (annual charge of $2,388; monthly billing): 3,000 links, 200 QR Codes, 20 custom landing pages, and one year of click and scan data. It is aimed at organizations with substantial publishing volume and a need for longer reporting history.
Enterprise — custom pricing: Custom link, QR Code, and landing-page volumes; multiple users and group permissions; high-volume API and webhook access; SSO; priority support; and two years of analytics retention. It is the tier for larger teams needing administration and tailored capacity, rather than a fixed monthly allowance.

Enterprise also includes user management and activity logs, customized onboarding, a dedicated customer success manager, and a 99.99% uptime commitment. Support ranges from basic to priority by plan.

Platforms

Bitly supports web access, browser extensions, Android, iOS, and an API. The mobile apps support creating, sharing, and monitoring links, while device-specific web access extends use beyond desktop browsers.

Who it's for

Bitly is strongest for businesses managing branded links and QR Codes across campaigns, especially when audience-based routing and centralized analytics matter. Its integrations can fit into existing marketing workflows, and Enterprise has meaningful team controls for organizations that need permissions, SSO, and activity logs.

It is less compelling for someone who only needs a few short links: Free limits creation to five links and two QR Codes monthly. Teams comparing costs should also weigh annual-only Core billing and the Growth price against their expected volume, rather than treating the larger quotas as an automatic upgrade.

Pros and cons

Pros: Links can be routed by location or device and edited after creation, useful for campaigns that need destination control.
Pros: Link and QR Code creation, analytics, and bulk tools share one service, with more than 60 marketplace integrations.
Pros: Enterprise combines team administration, SSO, high-volume API and webhook access, and a 99.99% uptime commitment.
Cons: Free creation allowances are low at 5 links and 2 QR Codes per month, despite unlimited clicks and no expiry.
Cons: Core is annual-only, and analytics retention is just 30 days at that tier.
Cons: The stated Growth price is 2934835.00 USD per month, a major barrier for most buyers.

Alternatives

Consider Cuttly if a larger free short-link allowance is the priority: its Free plan includes 30 short links per month, one branded domain, 30 days of analytics history, and three API calls per 60 seconds.

Replug is worth comparing for its free allowance of 100 short links, 2 bio links, 10 smart QR codes, and one workspace, alongside a free trial.

Go2 may suit users who want a self-hosted option: its platforms include self-hosted access, and its free plan provides 100 tracked links per month, 5K attributed clicks per month, and one custom domain.

Compare Short.io, T.LY, Rebrandly, Dub, and Linkrift as other link-management alternatives.

Verdict

Choose Bitly if your organization needs branded short links, dynamic QR Codes, audience-aware routing, and campaign analytics together, with an Enterprise path to team controls and high-volume access. Look elsewhere if a generous free allowance or predictable lower-cost paid growth is the priority: the free quotas are tight, Core requires annual billing, and the Growth price is prohibitive as stated.
