In their own words
BlackBoiler
BlackBoiler reviews contracts in Microsoft Word by applying an organization’s playbook, previous redlines, approved wording, and examples. It creates first-pass tracked changes and comments; reviewers then accept, modify, reject, escalate, or negotiate each suggestion. Veris provides conversational access to playbooks and contract language within Word. The service covers recurring agreements such as NDAs, service agreements, and subcontracts, plus construction prime contracts, subcontracts, and professional services agreements using AIA, ConsensusDocs, and EJCDC forms. BlackBoiler is aimed at in-house legal teams, law firms, contract managers, and construction legal, commercial, procurement, and project teams. It concentrates on pre-execution review and redlining, while an existing CLM can handle intake, approvals, signatures, and the broader lifecycle. Platforms are web and API. Starter costs $1,250/user/year, Pro costs $3,000/user/year, Enterprise pricing is custom, and a seven-day trial requires a credit card.
Plexus
Plexus is an AI-powered legal platform for in-house legal teams and the business groups they support. It combines contract and matter management with marketing and promotion compliance, reporting and legal AI. Contract workflows cover creation, negotiation, approvals, e-signatures, and reminders for renewals and milestones. Its AI can review and summarize contracts, identify risks or missing clauses against legal playbooks and policies, and answer document questions with context and suggested next steps. Matter Management tracks legal requests from intake through execution. Marketing Compliance helps teams review creative, while Promotion Compliance can generate campaign terms and permits. Word and Outlook add-ins connect contract and matter work to those applications; the platform also describes integrations with commonly used CRM systems, e-signature providers and document repositories. Plexus states that it is ISO 27001:2022 certified and GDPR compliant. It offers a free trial with full platform access and no credit card requirement, but gives no trial duration. Pricing is available on request and scales with legal team size.
