In their own words
Blockcerts
Blockcerts is an open standard and open-source ecosystem for creating, issuing, receiving, and checking blockchain-based credentials and official records. Its intended settings include civic records, education, professional licensing, and workforce development. Recipients can use the Blockcerts app to receive, import, keep, and share credentials; a private passphrase supports ownership and recovery. A universal verifier checks records independently and can be incorporated into other software. Developer resources include Python tools for creating and issuing credentials, a JavaScript verification library for Node.js or browsers, and a standalone web verifier. The issuer library supports Bitcoin and Ethereum, while the standard is designed to work across blockchains. Verification checks issuer signatures and certificate data, including expiry and revocation. Issued certificates cannot be edited, though an issuer can revoke an incorrect one or issue a replacement batch. Blockchain data is a one-way hash of certificate information. Blockcerts is free; Bitcoin batch issuance may incur a variable network transaction fee.
CertifyMe
CertifyMe issues digital degrees, diplomas, certificates, and badges for educational institutions, professional associations, and training providers. It supports Open Badges 3.0 and the W3C Verifiable Credentials data model. Recipients can share credentials by link or place them on a learner profile, social channel, or wallet when the receiving service supports it. CertifyMe describes cryptographic checks that help establish authenticity and identify changes to signed data. Institutions can map skills to ESCO and O*NET reference frameworks while retaining their own skill models as authoritative. Its Comprehensive Learner Record brings credentials together with skills, coursework, projects, and experience, complementing rather than replacing the authoritative transcript. The REST API can award, retrieve, edit, and delete credentials; template, project, and analytics APIs are described as advanced-tier features. CertifyMe runs on web and API. The Free plan includes 50 credentials, two courses, and one admin account. Paid plan pricing is on request, and a seven-day trial is listed.
