Overview

Blokada brings ad and tracker blocking, parental controls and a VPN into one privacy-focused suite. It is best suited to people who want to match a specific privacy need to a Blokada product, rather than expect every feature on every device under one plan. The free Android blocker is a narrow starting point; the broader options have distinct capabilities and terms.

Key features

Blocking and privacy

Blokada 5 blocks ads, trackers and malware across apps and browsers without root or jailbreak, and custom filter lists allow users to adjust what is blocked. That combination makes it a practical option for Android users who want system-wide blocking without modifying their device. It does not block cookie popups, so users seeking relief from consent banners will need another solution.

Blokada 6 shifts blocking to the cloud and adds encrypted private DNS, multi-device management and web monitoring. Those additions suit people who want protection managed across devices, but Blokada 6 is distinct from the free Blokada 5 offer. Family is a separate parental-control option, with customizable device access, activity monitoring, safe search, malware protection, and social-media and tracker blocking.

VPN and privacy commitments

Blokada Plus uses WireGuard to encrypt network activity and hide the user's IP address. It allows up to five active devices at a time and works on platforms where the WireGuard app is available; setup uses a VPN profile generated in the web dashboard. That is a flexible route for users comfortable with WireGuard, but less direct than a VPN built around a dedicated client.

Blokada says it does not track or share network activity, and that Plus collects only the minimal data needed to operate. Its privacy policy says personal data is stored within the EU and shared with service providers, such as email and payment suppliers, for stated purposes. Support is available by email, through support.blokada.org, and via in-app contact links.

Pricing

Blokada 5: 0.00 USD per free for an ad blocker on Android 5 or newer. This is the right fit for an Android user who wants blocking without a subscription; it does not include the Plus VPN or establish access to the separate Blokada 6 and Family capabilities.

Blokada Plus: 5.00 EUR per month, automatically charged monthly in advance when subscribed by credit card, for up to five active devices. The 7-day money-back guarantee has exceptions for cash payments and App Store purchases. Plus suits people who specifically want WireGuard VPN coverage across their devices and accept the recurring charge and active-device cap.

Blokada uses a freemium model, but the free plan is limited to Blokada 5 on Android. That makes it a useful low-cost entry point, not a general free tier for the whole suite.

Platforms

Blokada's platform coverage spans Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web and browser extensions, with desktop-and-mobile device coverage and support for major browsers. The products do not all share that reach: the free plan requires Android 5 or newer, while Plus depends on platforms that support the WireGuard app and uses a dashboard-generated profile.

Who it's for

Choose Blokada if you want ad blocking, family controls or a WireGuard VPN from a privacy-focused suite, and are willing to select among separate products. Android users who need only ad blocking have a clear free option; families can look to Family's monitoring and access controls; VPN users can choose Plus for up to five active devices.

Look elsewhere if cookie-popup blocking is essential, or if you want the entire suite included in one free plan. Blokada's breadth is an advantage only when its distinct products and plan boundaries match what you need.

Pros and cons

Broad privacy toolkit: ad blocking, parental controls and a WireGuard VPN cover different needs within one suite.
Root-free blocking: Blokada 5 blocks across apps and browsers without root or jailbreak, with custom filter lists for tailoring.
Clear entry price: Blokada 5 is free on Android 5 or newer, while Plus has a stated monthly price and five-device limit.
Distinct product boundaries: the free plan is only Blokada 5, so users should not assume it includes cloud blocking, family controls or VPN service.
No cookie-popup blocking: Blokada will not remove that particular browsing annoyance.
WireGuard setup takes an extra step: Plus requires a profile from the web dashboard and the WireGuard app on the target platform.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, see Ad Blocking Software, Ad blockers and Parental control apps.

Ghostery is a stronger fit if you want a free, open-source tracker and ad blocker with no subscription requirement. AdNauseam is another free choice if a browser extension is the form you want. 1Blocker suits users focused on Apple platforms who want multiple blocking categories and background filter updates for 2.99 USD per month.

AdBlocker Ultimate offers free access and plans for three or ten devices, while Disconnect has a single-browser basic extension and a 5.00 USD per month Premium plan. Adblock Plus is another freemium option across Android, browser extensions, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. AdLock offers plans for five devices, including a 39.50 USD per year option. Poper Blocker offers a free plan with no registration required and an annual Pro option.

Verdict

Blokada is a good choice for users who want to choose among ad blocking, family controls and WireGuard VPN service, especially Android users who can start with the free Blokada 5 plan. Its key strength is that range; its key limitation is that the free offer covers only one product, while Plus carries a monthly charge and setup requirements. Choose it when those boundaries suit your needs, and look elsewhere if cookie-popup blocking or a unified free package is essential.
