Overview

Boardable is governance software for nonprofits that need board and committee work to carry from preparation through follow-up. It is best suited to organizations willing to pay per seat for a shared workflow, rather than those seeking a free board portal or a tool limited to meeting agendas.

Its value is the breadth of governance work in one platform; the trade-off is that every organization member added—including observers—counts toward the bill.

Key features

Timed agendas support attachments and can be turned into shareable board packets, helping members prepare from a common set of materials. Scheduling, secure video meetings, polls and votes, motion tracking, and minute taking cover the meeting itself. Decision and action-item tracking, recurring meetings, agenda templates, and outcome reporting extend that structure into follow-up.

Discussions, documents, and tasks sit alongside the meeting workflow. Integrations include Google Drive, Dropbox, SharePoint, Office 365, OneDrive, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and YouTube livestreaming, which can help organizations retain familiar storage and meeting services. The iOS and Android apps provide access to meetings, packets, documents, discussions, polls, tasks, and the directory, a useful complement for members who are away from a computer.

Boardable says it uses AWS hosting, TLS 1.2+ in transit, AWS-managed encryption at rest, SSO, and two-factor authentication. It states support for SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR standards, selectable US, Canada, or EU data residency, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA for its web application and public site. Its 24/7 help center and Success team trained on nonprofit governance may be useful to organizations that want support specific to board operations.

Pricing

Boardable is paid software, starting at $20.99/user/mo billed annually, with a 14-day trial that provides full access to Professional features; a plan need not be selected to start. The annual billing commitment and seat definition matter: admins, board members, committee members, and observers all count as seats, while meeting guests and survey respondents do not.

Essentials: $20.99/user/mo billed annually ($251.88 annually), with 1,000 files, 5 meeting guests, 10 groups, and 4 survey sends and 400 responses/mo. This is the entry option for organizations with modest storage and guest needs; the quotas could constrain larger or survey-heavy boards.
Professional: $29.99/user/mo billed annually ($359.88 annually), with unlimited file storage, 10 meeting guests, 25 groups, and optional Boardable Video add-on. It raises the storage, guest, and group ceilings, but video is not included and surveys remain more constrained than on Professional+.
Professional+: $35.99/user/mo billed annually ($431.88 annually), with unlimited file storage, meeting guests, groups, and surveys, plus Boardable Video included. It is the clearest fit for organizations that need fewer quotas to manage and want video included, at the highest per-seat price.

All paid plans make organization membership a cost driver, so boards with many observers or committee members should account for those seats as well as core directors. Essentials and Professional lower the price by imposing tighter usage limits; the 14-day trial is a way to assess the Professional feature set before committing.

Platforms

Boardable supports web, Windows, and macOS, with mobile apps for iOS and Android. The broad platform coverage suits organizations whose members use a mix of desktop and mobile devices.

Who it's for

Boardable is a strong fit for nonprofits that want agendas, board packets, decisions, minutes, and follow-up in a single governance workflow, especially when accessibility, data residency choices, and nonprofit-oriented support matter. Organizations with a small paid-seat budget, many observers, or limited needs may find the per-user model and paid-only entry less suitable.

Pros and cons

Pros: The workflow spans preparation, meetings, decisions, and follow-up, rather than stopping at document distribution.
Pros: Professional+ removes the listed file, guest, group, and survey caps and includes Boardable Video.
Pros: Mobile apps provide access to a wide set of board activities, not just meeting schedules.
Cons: All organization members, including observers and committee members, count as paid seats, which can expand costs beyond the director roster.
Cons: The lower plans impose file, guest, group, and survey limits, while the Essentials price still requires annual billing.
Cons: No free plan is offered, so it is not an option for organizations that need a permanently free service.

Alternatives

BoardBook Premier is a paid alternative spanning Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows, with pricing available by contacting its maker.
BoardiGO is worth considering for a free starting point: its free plan supports one organization, up to 10 users, and 2 GB of storage, while Pro is priced at 55.00 EUR per month billed yearly.
Sherpany offers paid Executive and Board plans with meeting preparation, conduct, follow-up, and task tracking; choose it when those listed workflows and its plan structures better fit your needs.

GlobalBoards is another paid alternative, available on iOS and web.

Verdict

Choose Boardable if your nonprofit wants one platform to manage board preparation, decisions, and follow-up, and its per-seat annual cost fits the full membership you plan to add. Look elsewhere if free access, fewer seat charges, or looser entry-plan quotas matter more than having those governance workflows together.
