Overview

Bounce Metronome Pro is a visual metronome for musicians who want more control over rhythm and practice tempo than a basic click provides. It is best suited to players working on complex patterns or structured tempo drills. Its extensive controls are appealing, but the post-trial restrictions and uncertain Mac compatibility make platform and purchase fit important considerations.

Key features

Pro handles odd and additive time signatures, arbitrary subdivisions, swing, drum rudiments, polyrhythms and rare rhythms. That range serves musicians practicing demanding rhythmic material; it is more than a player needs for straightforward timekeeping. Tap tempo, fractional BPM and an unlimited tempo range allow precise setup, while gradual tempo changes, silent intervals, speed drills and automatic tempo or rhythm switching support deliberate practice routines.

Bouncing visuals, conducting patterns and beat and sub-beat counts offer ways to follow the pulse visually, and silent mode removes the audible click. Audio controls include beat and subdivision accents, rhythm auto-accents, selectable instruments, chord accompaniment and stereo panning. MIDI output supports use with VSTi and sound fonts, which is useful for musicians building the metronome into a software-instrument setup. The maker also describes accessibility features for blind, visually impaired and deaf musicians.

The maker says its downloadable programs do not collect data, contain spyware or serve ads, and connect to the internet only when requested. Payment agents process card details; the maker says it does not see card numbers. Email support, tutorials, a wiki and a forum are offered, along with a no-quibbles money-back guarantee.

Pricing

A fully featured Pro trial lasts 30 days and can be started when the user chooses. After it ends, Basic and Pro animations pause every few seconds and audio times out after a few minutes unless the user buys an unlock key. That makes the trial useful for evaluating the full toolset, but not a lasting free version for uninterrupted practice.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free Beginner’s Bounce Metronome	Free	Common beginner time signatures, up to four subdivisions and a basic drum machine.
Bounce Metronome Lite	9.99 USD per once	Windows desktop; Linux via Wine.
Bounce Metronome Pro	29.99 USD per once	Windows desktop; Linux via Wine.

The free plan is a sensible starting point for beginner meters and modest subdivision needs. Lite is the lower-cost paid option, while Pro is the choice for the full advanced rhythm, tempo, sound and MIDI feature set. Both paid prices are one-time purchases; no seat limit or recurring renewal is stated.

Platforms

The current download is for Windows and can run on Linux through Wine. The maker says its older 32-bit Mac beta does not run on macOS High Sierra or later, so Mac users should not assume they can use the current Pro release. The maker identifies itself as Robert Walker and gives a postal address on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Who it's for

Choose Bounce Metronome Pro if you need unusual meters, polyrhythms, fine-grained tempo control, visual cues or MIDI output, and your setup can run the Windows download directly or through Wine. The free plan suits basic beginner practice. It is a weaker fit for musicians who need dependable native Mac compatibility or want an unrestricted free metronome after the trial.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad rhythm support, including arbitrary subdivisions, polyrhythms and rare rhythms, makes it suitable for practice beyond standard meters.
Pros: Tempo drills, automatic switching, visual cues, chord accompaniment and MIDI output cover several distinct practice and setup needs.
Pros: The full Pro trial runs for 30 days and starts at the user's discretion.
Cons: After the trial, animation pauses and audio timeouts interrupt continued use without an unlock key.
Cons: The current download is for Windows; Linux use depends on Wine, and the older Mac beta does not run on macOS High Sierra or later.

The Metronome by Soundbrenner provides its core app features free on Android, iOS and macOS, with a Plus subscription. Pro Metronome is an Android and iOS alternative with an ad-free free version, a 0.99 USD per month plan, a 3.99 USD per once Pro version and an annual plan.

Verdict

Bounce Metronome Pro is the stronger fit for musicians who need unusually broad rhythm options and structured tempo practice on Windows or Linux via Wine. Its main reason to choose it is the combination of complex rhythm support, practice controls, visuals and MIDI. Look elsewhere if you need a current Mac release or an uninterrupted free metronome beyond the 30-day trial.
