Overview

Bria Video Background Removal is a video cutout service for developers, production teams and creators working with clips or live video. It is strongest when background removal needs to fit into an API, streaming or OBS workflow; casual users may find its one-minute clip limit and per-second billing restrictive.

It combines background removal with replacement, green-screen output, masks and transparent exports. That breadth is useful for compositing, but the product’s clearest advantage is its choice of ways to integrate the processing into a production pipeline.

Key features

Powered by Bria’s V-RMBG 3.0 model, the service provides 256-level alpha and high-resolution cutouts designed for detail such as hair, motion and semi-transparent objects. It can remove or replace a background, produce green-screen output, return a background mask and export transparent video. That gives editors and downstream systems several useful outputs, though the maximum clip length is one minute. Supported inputs are MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI and GIF.

For live video, the WebSocket endpoint maintains a persistent session and schedules the latest frame first, dropping stale frames instead of allowing a backlog to build. Bria states 40 ms server inference at sustained 24 FPS and under 100 ms US round-trip latency. This design is well suited to conferencing backgrounds, live avatars, commerce and recording studios, where current frames matter more than processing every frame.

Bria Build includes REST APIs, a Python SDK, an MCP server and agent skills. Its asynchronous video endpoints cover erasing, background removal and replacement, green screen, resolution increase and masking, alongside WebSocket streaming for live removal. The native OBS Studio effect filter adds a route for webcam use without a local GPU or green screen; downloads are available for macOS and Windows x64. Bria says its models are trained exclusively on licensed data.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes 100 free generations, cloud-only deployment, 10 requests per minute, queue-based latency and Discord community support. It is a reasonable way to evaluate the cloud service, but the generation cap, slower queue and community support make it a poor fit for sustained or time-sensitive production.

Pay-as-you-go costs 0.02 USD per once, billed per video second. It removes the generation cap and raises the limit to 60 requests per minute, with priority queue latency, standard technical support and capped standard indemnification. This is the practical step up for ongoing use without a fixed generation allowance, although per-second charges make heavier workloads less predictable than a fixed subscription.

Enterprise has custom pricing and adds unlimited IP indemnification, SSO/SAML, audit logs, a custom DPA, custom rate limits, dedicated performance capacity and a dedicated Solution Engineer. Selected pipelines can run in Bria Cloud, a customer’s AWS, GCP or Azure account, or on-premises. Bria says self-hosted inputs and outputs stay within the customer environment and are not sent to Bria, making this tier the relevant choice for organizations that need deployment control or enterprise security terms. Bria states that it is ISO 27001 certified, SOC 2 attested and C2PA compliant.

Platforms

Bria lists API, macOS, self-hosted, web and Windows platforms. Its OBS filter supports macOS and Windows x64, while enterprise deployment can extend to customer cloud accounts or on-premises infrastructure. The range covers both hosted development workflows and controlled enterprise environments, but the free plan is cloud-only.

Who it's for

Bria is a good fit for developers adding video cutouts to an application, teams building real-time video features, and production groups that need masks, replacement or green-screen output alongside removal. The OBS filter also makes it relevant to webcam users who want live background removal without a local GPU or physical green screen.

It is less compelling for occasional long-form edits: clips cannot exceed one minute, and pay-as-you-go charges accrue by video second. Buyers who need a fixed-cost editing subscription or a desktop-first workflow should compare alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Multiple integration paths: asynchronous REST endpoints, WebSocket streaming, SDK and OBS filter let teams choose between batch processing, live features and webcam use.
Useful compositing outputs: masks, green-screen output, background replacement and transparent video support more than a simple foreground cutout.
Live-oriented scheduling: latest-wins streaming drops stale frames to avoid processing a growing backlog.
Meaningful deployment controls: enterprise customers can use their own cloud account or on-premises infrastructure, with self-hosted inputs and outputs remaining in their environment.
Short clip ceiling: the one-minute maximum rules out longer single-clip jobs.
Variable usage cost: the 0.02 USD per once plan is billed per video second, so costs rise with processed duration.
Restricted free tier: 100 generations, cloud-only deployment and queue-based latency make it suited to evaluation rather than dependable production.

Alternatives

Video Background Removal Software and Green Screen Software are useful starting points for comparing products by category.

Choose Cutout.Pro if you want a freemium option spanning Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows; its listed subscription starts at 5.00 USD per month for 80 credits, billed monthly. Pixelcut is another freemium option, with Android, API, iOS and web support and a free plan that includes limited background removal and watermark-free exports.

Media.io AI Object Remover is a web-based alternative with a free trial; its Premium offer begins with a 3-day trial and 50GB cloud storage. For webcam workflows, VCam offers a free Starter plan for Windows and macOS, limited to three workspace members, 500MB storage and a watermark.

If you want a free desktop or self-hosted route, Transparent Background is an open-source Python package with GUI and webcam support, while EZ-CorridorKey is a free desktop app. Knockout API is an API alternative with 30 free images per month and a metered pay-as-you-go plan. Picsart Video Background Removal API offers API access through free signup credits and custom API pricing.

Verdict

Choose Bria when you need video background removal that can move between REST processing, low-latency streaming and OBS, or when enterprise deployment controls matter. Its broad outputs and integration options are the strongest reasons to pick it; the one-minute limit and per-second billing are the clearest reasons to look elsewhere for longer, occasional edits.
