Overview

Made by BUSY Infotech Pvt. Ltd., a New Delhi company founded in 1997, BUSY combines accounting with stock, orders and manufacturing functions. It is offered as desktop software and as a cloud-based online version, with hybrid deployment. A 15-day trial does not require a credit card.

The scope extends well beyond invoices: the software supports multiple entities, GST reconciliation and branch operations. BUSY says more than 600,000 businesses use it and that it has operated for more than 30 years.

Key features

Accounting and GST

Express includes invoices, receipts, accounting vouchers, inventory, reports and financial statements such as profit and loss and balance sheet. That makes it more capable than a bare billing tool, although it does not include the higher-tier GST and operations features. GST reconciliation covers GSTR-1, 2A, 2B and 3B, with input tax credit mismatch tracking; IRP integration supports e-invoices. Invoices can also be shared through WhatsApp, and migration from Tally or Marg is supported.

Stock, production and control

Inventory tools cover warehouses, batches, serial numbers, ordering and reorder levels. Standard adds batch-wise inventory, bills of materials and production planning, making it the more relevant tier for manufacturers. User-definable access rights and activity logs help administrators control access and review activity. Regular SQL plans include secure server backups and support unlimited simultaneous users in the same office and multiple offices.

Mobile and support

The mobile app supports reports, orders, quotations, invoices, ledgers, stock and payment reminders. Live phone support is offered 24/7, alongside email, WhatsApp and call support.

Pricing

Express is free and covers billing and accounting, multiple companies and financial years, invoices, receipts, inventory, journal vouchers, reports, profit and loss, and balance sheets. It is a substantial entry point for businesses that can work within its core scope.

Paid plans start at ₹5,000 per year. Start costs ₹5,000 per year, billed 360 days, and targets non-GST businesses with billing, invoicing, inventory, ledger reconciliation, depreciation, financial statements, and email, WhatsApp and call support. Smart costs ₹8,000 per year, billed 360 days, and adds complete GST with 10,000 EWB and e-invoices. Power costs ₹12,000 per year, billed 360 days, and is tailored to multi-branch operations with 20,000 EWB and e-invoices. Power+ costs ₹50,000 per year, billed 360 days, and is aimed at large enterprises; it includes 10 users, 150 companies and 50,000 EWB and e-invoices. Those quotas make Smart and Power a better fit when electronic document volume matters, while Power+ is the clearest stated choice for larger user and company counts.

The other paid tiers are priced monthly: Basic is ₹11,000 per month for non-GST billing and accounting, multiple companies and financial years, multiple-godown inventory, access rights and ledger reconciliation. Standard is ₹16,500 per month and adds complete GST accounting, orders and quotations, batch inventory, BOM and production planning, and multi-currency support. Enterprise is ₹22,000 per month for multi-branch management, online and offline operation, branch-wise reporting, multiple GSTINs, payroll, indent and call management. These tiers suit progressively more complex operations, but the monthly prices are a substantial step up from the annual plans. The trial lasts 15 days.

Platforms

BUSY runs on the web and is also available as desktop software and a cloud-based online version. Its mobile app is available through Google Play and the App Store. The stated mobile functions make it useful for checking business activity and handling documents away from a desktop, though the listed mobile scope is narrower than the full accounting and inventory feature set.

Who it's for

BUSY is a strong fit for Indian businesses that need accounting tied to GST, inventory and operational workflows, particularly those managing multiple warehouses, production or branches. Express and Start suit businesses with simpler needs; Smart and above make more sense when GST and e-invoice quotas matter. Businesses that only need personal or small-business desktop accounting, or that do not need the broader operational scope, should consider simpler alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pros

Express includes inventory, multiple companies and financial statements at no charge, not just basic invoicing.
GST reconciliation spans GSTR-1, 2A, 2B and 3B and tracks ITC mismatches.
Inventory, production planning and multi-branch features support a wider range of operating needs than bookkeeping alone.
24/7 live phone support and a no-card 15-day trial lower the barrier to evaluation.

Cons

The paid tiers span annual and monthly terms, and the monthly plans are much more expensive than the entry annual tiers.
Only Power+ states user and company caps; readers who need capacity clarity should confirm the fit of other tiers before choosing.
Express is limited to core billing and accounting, so businesses needing complete GST, production or branch features must move to paid plans.

Alternatives

For narrower or different accounting needs, these options offer different trade-offs:

GNUKhata is a free, open-source option available on Linux, Windows, web and self-hosted environments; its current v8.0 supports Docker installation.
GnuCash is free desktop accounting for personal and small-business use on Linux, macOS and Windows, a better fit when BUSY's operational breadth is unnecessary.
FrontAccounting is free accounting software for self-hosted or web use.
Infor Public Sector is a paid option spanning web, mobile, Windows, API and self-hosted platforms; pricing is custom.
Adagio Accounting offers Adagio for Accountants at $100.00 per month, including ledger and financial reporting, payables and EFT, BankRec, Cloud Manager and Console, Datacare, and one admin and one general user license.
Marg ERP is a paid alternative with Windows, web and mobile support; its listed Nano and Basic editions cap use at two users and two companies.
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT uses custom pricing based on organizational needs, with implementation, training and ongoing support potentially included.
Flexi is another paid alternative, available through API, self-hosted and web platforms.

Readers comparing category-specific options can also browse General Ledger Software, Gym Accounting Software, Retail Accounting Software, Salon Accounting Software, Bookkeeping Software and ERP Software.

Verdict

Choose BUSY if your business needs Indian GST accounting integrated with inventory, orders or multi-branch operations, and start with Express or the 15-day trial to assess the fit. Look elsewhere if you want only straightforward desktop bookkeeping or need clearer seat limits before selecting a paid tier.
