| Spec score · Minecraft Backup Software | 8.2 (#6) | 7.3 (#12) |
| Compatibility | The stated requirements are Minecraft 26.0+ in the 26.x series, Fabric Loader 0.15.0+, Fabric API, and Java 25+. | The maker’s site says FastBack works on Linux, Mac, and Windows, and on Minecraft clients and dedicated servers. |
| Integrations | The README documents Fabric and Minecraft requirements and does not name any external backup storage integrations. | FastBack supports LuckPerms permissions and remote backups to Git servers such as GitHub. |
| License | The project lists the MIT license. | FastBack is distributed under GNU General Public License version 2. |
| Purpose | CaCl2Backup is a Minecraft server backup mod designed for Fabric. | FastBack is a Minecraft mod that creates incremental world backup snapshots, saving only changed parts of the world. |
| Requirements | The README lists Minecraft 26.0+, Fabric Loader 0.15.0+, Fabric API, and Java 25+ as requirements. | FastBack requires native Git and Git LFS to be installed. |
| Restore | It restores world saves from backups, and restore operations overwrite the current world save. | You can restore a snapshot as a separate world copy; restoring does not change the current world files. |
| Retention | Automatic cleanup can apply both a maximum backup count and maximum backup age; the documented defaults are 10 backups and 7 days. | FastBack supports daily, fixed-count, GFS, or all-snapshots retention policies; its default keeps the last snapshot from each day and all snapshots from the last three days. |
| Support | The repository page lists zero open issues when viewed. | The documentation directs users who need help installing native Git to the maker’s Discord channel. |

In their own words
CaCl2Backup
CaCl2Backup is a Fabric mod for backing up Minecraft Java server worlds. It can create backups on an interval, on a daily schedule, or when the server stops, and those triggers can be combined. Backups are written to temporary output, checked with CRC verification, and published only after validation. Automatic cleanup can limit both the number of backups and their age. Operators can use /backup commands to create, list, restore, and delete backups; all commands require OP privileges. Restoring replaces the current world save, with safeguards described for validating level.dat and handling failed swaps. Configuration can be reloaded without restarting the server. Backups are stored locally, and the documented restore granularity is a full backup. Installation requires putting the mod JAR in the server’s mods folder after installing Fabric Loader and Fabric API. The stated requirements are Minecraft 26.0+ in the 26.x series, Fabric Loader 0.15.0+, Fabric API, and Java 25+. The project identifies its license as MIT.
FastBack
FastBack is a free Minecraft mod for making incremental snapshots of Java worlds: each snapshot records only the parts that have changed. It can save backups locally, send them to another Git repository, or write them to a network drive without a Git server. Automatic backups can run when a world shuts down or after Minecraft autosaves, with a configurable minimum wait between runs. A snapshot can be restored as a separate world copy, so the current world files remain unchanged. Retention options include daily, fixed-count, GFS, and all-snapshots policies; snapshots can also include mod jars and configuration files. FastBack works on Minecraft clients and dedicated servers, with Linux, Mac, and Windows support. Separate Fabric and NeoForge mod files are listed. It requires native Git and Git LFS to be installed and available on the Minecraft process PATH. Garbage collection can take more than five minutes, and the documentation recommends running git gc directly for worlds larger than 1 GB. The mod is distributed under GNU Public License version 2; modpack use requires attribution with a link to the project page.
