Overview

Place a date or time before FollowUpThen’s email address and it schedules a reminder. The service accepts thousands of date formats, including intervals, specific dates and recurring schedules. That makes it a practical choice for quick follow-ups embedded in email, though it is not a replacement for a broad project or task-management workspace.

Use BCC to keep a reminder private to its sender, or CC to send the due follow-up to everyone in the message’s To field. Upcoming reminders can be managed in the web app, by emailing pending@followupthen.com, or through a daily agenda. These routes give email-oriented users flexibility without requiring an inbox connection for the basic workflow.

Key features

Recurring reminders, persistent tasks, SMS notifications, response detection and automatic cancellation when a reply arrives are among the listed add-ons. The service also lists Zapier, which it says connects to 4000+ other apps, and Google Calendar features for managing follow-ups. These additions can extend a lightweight reminder workflow, but the core appeal remains scheduling from email rather than managing work in a larger suite.

Privacy mode deletes message bodies and attachments when a reminder is scheduled, while keeping subject and header data for threading. The trade-off matters: for support, debugging and system operations, FollowUpThen saves headers and subjects in an unencrypted, searchable format. Its help page says message bodies are stored with 128-bit encryption and email contents are automatically deleted between four weeks and six months after a follow-up is sent. The company also says it undergoes an annual security audit involving manual and automated penetration testing by a Google-approved third party. Users who need stronger limits on metadata retention should weigh those retained fields carefully.

For GDPR-related needs, users can delete their account and export follow-ups as a portable CSV; a data processing agreement for EU customer data is available on request. Support is directed through the help center and a contact link.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and allows 50 active followups per month, free forever. It is a sensible fit for occasional personal reminders, but the cap may constrain a busy queue.

The Base Plan costs 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes basic functionality, attachments, calendar integration, tasks, cancellation and recurring followups. This is the clearer fit for regular use that needs those capabilities, while remaining a focused email follow-up tool rather than a broad productivity suite.

Skills has custom pricing, with billing shown as $2~20/mo, for optional à la carte add-ons; examples include response detection, SMS and calendar integration. Choose it when a specific add-on is more useful than upgrading for a bundle. A 14-day trial is offered.

Platforms

FollowUpThen is available on Android, iOS and the web. Its email-address-based service is described as working on phones, PCs, tablets and other devices, which supports the same basic workflow across screens.

Who it's for

It is a good fit for people who already use email as their follow-up system and want private personal reminders or a due nudge shared with everyone on a thread. The no-inbox-connection basic workflow is especially useful to people wary of granting broad mailbox access. Teams seeking a full sales engagement or project-management platform should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Scheduling from an email address avoids a separate reminder workflow, and BCC and CC support private and group follow-ups.
Pros: The free plan is free forever, and reminders can be managed in the web app, by email or through a daily agenda.
Pros: Account deletion and portable CSV export provide useful control over follow-up data.
Cons: The free plan’s 50-active-followup monthly cap can be restrictive for frequent users.
Cons: Privacy mode removes bodies and attachments at scheduling but leaves subjects and headers, which are saved unencrypted and searchable for operational needs.
Cons: The product is centered on follow-ups; readers looking for a wider work-management environment may need another tool.

Verdict

Choose FollowUpThen if you want a narrow, email-first way to schedule personal or shared follow-ups without connecting your inbox. Its flexible date handling and multiple reminder-management routes are the strongest reasons to choose it; the free cap and unencrypted retained headers and subjects are the clearest reasons to look elsewhere.
