In their own words
CapAnalysis
CapAnalysis is a free, open-source web visual tool for examining captured network traffic on Linux. It indexes PCAP datasets and displays TCP, UDP, and ESP streams or flows, including geographic connection views. The web viewer handles individual PCAP files and sets of files. TCP analysis reports bytes lost in each direction and total bytes exchanged without counting retransmitted packets. Deep Packet Inspection identifies more than 140 protocols, allowing protocol-based flow filtering. Other filters cover IP address or port, destination country, data size, and date and time. An included MaxMind database identifies destination countries for IPv4 and IPv6 connections. PCAP files can also be imported from public URLs, including URLs pointing to ZIP archives. Debian and Ubuntu packages are listed in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. After installation, users open the application through a browser on port 9877. The demo accepts PCAP files up to 20 MB and deletes dataset data the following day at 00:00 UTC.
Scapy
Scapy is a free Python packet manipulation program and library for forging or decoding packets, sending and capturing them, and matching requests with replies. It can run as an interactive shell or be used as a library. Listed tasks include scanning, tracerouting, probing, unit tests, attacks and network discovery. Users can set arbitrary field values and stack protocol layers rather than rely on predetermined templates; after a probe, Scapy returns full decoded packets before interpretation for further analysis. It can read and store pcap files, inject invalid frames and custom 802.11 frames, and be extended with protocols and add-ons. Scapy runs on Linux, macOS, BSD and Windows, though Windows installation requires Npcap. Optional plotting needs Matplotlib; TLS decryption and PKI operations need the cryptography package. The code, tests and tools use GPL v2, while the documentation uses CC BY-NC-SA 2.5. Documentation includes installation instructions, usage guides, troubleshooting and an API reference. The project supports only its latest master version, and critical bugs should be reported privately through GitHub’s security tab.
