Overview

Carbonara App is a restaurant operations service for coordinating queues, bookings, seating, and guest communication. It is best suited to hospitality businesses that want waitlists and reservations together, including bookings through Google. Its breadth is useful, but the 50-booking monthly free-plan ceiling and usage-based messaging make volume and messaging patterns central to the buying decision.

Staff can add guests to a digital waitlist, while customers can also join by QR code. Restaurants can take reservations by telephone, email, web form, or online booking form, and manage table assignments for both waiting and reserved guests. Online reservations carry no additional per-booking fee.

Key features

Waitlists and table planning

Customizable confirmation and ready-by text messages keep guests informed as they wait. The free QR waitlist entry is a practical way to let guests join without staff entering each party, while table planning helps staff coordinate where queued and booked customers will sit. Online check-in and multiple check-in methods further support guest arrival workflows.

Reservations, messaging, and ordering

Reserve with Google integration lets restaurants take bookings from Google Maps and Search. That can broaden the reservation path beyond a restaurant’s own booking form, without a per-booking charge from Carbonara. Notifications include two-way SMS and WhatsApp, phone calls, and email; SMS and WhatsApp costs are usage-based, so a low subscription price does not cap total communications spend.

A waitlist drink-ordering flow sends a menu link by text, allows guests to order and pay, and delivers the order to the Carbonara app. An optional AI chatbot is provided through Botpress; Carbonara says chatbot conversations are not used to train AI models. The company describes security measures including encryption in transit, access controls, role-based permissions, authentication controls, logging, and restricted need-to-know production access.

Pricing

The Free plan is 0.00 USD per free and allows 50 bookings/month, with all Starter features included. It is a reasonable way to cover a small operation or assess the booking workflow, but the monthly booking cap makes it a poor fit once demand regularly exceeds that level.

Starter costs 9.99 USD per month, billed $8.99/year. Light is 19.99 USD per month, billed $17.99/year; Advanced is 29.99 USD per month, billed $26.99/year; VIP is 42.99 USD per month, billed $38.69/year; and PX is 56.99 USD per month, billed $51.29/year. A 14-day trial is available. Enterprise has custom pricing for 10+ locations. The plan names and prices establish a progression, but no plan-specific feature or quota differences beyond Free’s booking cap are given, so buyers should confirm which tier fits their operation before committing. Two-way SMS and WhatsApp are separately charged per usage. The paid plans are therefore most compelling when their included capabilities justify the subscription and the business can budget variable messaging costs.

Platforms

Carbonara runs on Android, iOS, and the web. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Reservation deposit and ticketing features are unavailable in Latin America except Mexico and Brazil, South Africa, and Cape Verde, a material restriction for businesses in those regions.

Who it's for

Carbonara is a strong fit for restaurants and other hospitality businesses that need both reservations and walk-in waitlists, want Google-sourced bookings, or value combining table planning with guest updates. It is less suitable for an operation that needs reservation deposits or ticketing in one of the excluded regions, or one that needs predictable messaging costs without usage-based SMS and WhatsApp charges. Support is handled by email at support@carbonaraapp.com.

Pros and cons

Pros: Waitlists, reservations, and table planning sit in one service, helping staff coordinate booked and waiting guests.
Pros: Reserve with Google and online reservations without an additional per-booking fee give restaurants booking routes beyond phone and email.
Pros: Free QR waitlist entry and a 50-booking free plan offer a low-cost starting point for small operations.
Cons: The Free plan stops at 50 bookings/month, limiting its usefulness as a business grows.
Cons: SMS and WhatsApp are charged per usage, leaving communication costs variable on top of the subscription.
Cons: Deposit and ticketing features are unavailable across several regions, including much of Latin America, South Africa, and Cape Verde.

Alternatives

Restaurant Waitlist Software is a useful category starting point for comparing restaurant-focused waitlist tools. For a free allowance of 100 SMS/month and one user, NextMe is worth considering; its Starter (annual) plan is 49.99 USD per year for 3,000 SMS/month and five users. TablesReady offers a free allowance of 150 messages/month and up to 100 parties, while its Starter plan is 39.00 USD per year, billed annually, for more messages and guests. Those choices may suit operators prioritizing a larger stated free messaging or party allowance over Carbonara’s combination of bookings, Google integration, and table planning.

Waitlist Me has a free basic guest list and same-day reservations but no notifications and limited customization; its Premium plan is 27.99 USD per month, billed annually at $335.88. Choose it if a simple free guest list matters more than notification features. Waitwhile provides one location, 50 visits/month, two-way customer messages, basic branding, and email and push team notifications on its free plan; its Starter is 31.00 USD per month. It may suit a business whose priority is that stated visit-and-message package. Shokken offers manual entry, QR self-join, browser tracking, core waitlist tools, and public menus free, with Founding Pro at 19.99 USD per month; it is a relevant alternative when those waitlist and menu tools are the main need.

EazyQ is an Android and web option whose free plan has a five-customer concurrent queue, 100 customers/month, 20 appointments/month, 50 AI receptionist chats/month, one staff seat, basic CRM, and community support. It suits a business that values those specific queue, appointment, and receptionist-chat allowances. digiQueue offers a free-forever plan with full queue management, standard and priority queues, QR code and SMS notifications, and a real-time dashboard; it may fit operators seeking a queue-first alternative without a free trial. QwikPass is another option to compare if its Open Access plan’s shared service credits and outlet and user allowances fit your operation.

Verdict

Choose Carbonara if your restaurant needs waitlists and reservations coordinated with table planning, Google booking access, and several guest-notification channels. Its strongest case is the combination of these workflows without an online per-booking fee. Look elsewhere if you require deposits or ticketing in an excluded region, need messaging spend to be fixed, or expect to outgrow the free booking limit without confidence that a paid tier fits your needs.
