In their own words
CarbonInk
CarbonInk is a free, open-source desktop tool for greenhouse-gas accounting on macOS and Windows. It runs offline, and its README says user data does not leave the device. The inventory tracks emission sources, activity data, and pinned emission factors across Scope 1, 2, and 3. AI can extract activity data from utility bills, fuel receipts, freight, travel, and purchase documents when users provide their own LLM API key. Users can fill customer or rating-agency disclosure forms from the inventory and collect supplier data for Scope 3 Category 1. The app produces an ISO 14064-1 inventory report as a PDF in one click. Pinned factors and calculation snapshots form an audit trail. A built-in MCP server exposes inventory data to Claude, Cursor, and Pi. CarbonInk is licensed under MIT. Its Free plan costs nothing, with no account, cloud service, or subscription. The README directs users to the releases page for macOS and Windows builds and says no activation key is needed.
EcoReko
EcoReko is web-based carbon accounting software for SMEs, focused on tracking Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and managing supplier data. Its inventory covers direct emissions, purchased energy and value chain emissions. The platform says it can produce reports aligned with CSRD, the GHG Protocol, TCFD and CDP from collected data. Users can model changes such as switching to renewable energy, changing suppliers or undertaking efficiency projects, then compare their cost, speed and carbon impact. A free plan includes one user, one site, Scope 1–3 tracking, an emissions factor library and a static dashboard. Standard starts from €4,500/yr and includes a baseline carbon report; Pro starts from €6,500/yr and adds reduction project analysis and an AI assistant. Pro Plus has custom pricing. EcoReko describes its main audience as businesses in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Its supplier portal and CBAM compliance are still in development. The company says raw emissions data remains in its private data layer while blockchain records proofs, timestamps and submission references.
