Overview

Cesure combines guitar score editing with transcription, playback, and practice tools in a browser and across desktop and mobile platforms. It is best suited to players who want several score views and musician utilities in one place. The free tier is useful for trying the editor, but its three-score library and five monthly transcriptions make regular saving or conversion a reason to consider Pro.

Editing can start without an account, but saving and syncing scores, using AI transcription, and hosting a collaboration room require one. For more options, browse Guitar Tab Software.

Key features

Score editing and file compatibility

Each score can be edited as tablature, standard notation, staff plus tab, or piano roll. Notes can be entered with a keyboard, by tapping the score, or using a MIDI keyboard; copy, paste, and undo work across views. That flexibility suits players who move between tab and conventional notation, while playback, MIDI support, and audio recording extend the editor beyond static scores.

Cesure imports Guitar Pro files (.gp, .gp3, .gp4, .gp5), MIDI, MusicXML, and AlphaTex. PDF, MIDI, and MusicXML exports are available, with AlphaTex export reserved for Pro. The free plan's three saved scores can be enough for occasional work, but it is a tight library for anyone building a larger collection.

Transcription, chords, and practice

MP3, WAV, and M4A recordings can be converted into editable tabs. The maker characterizes the result as a draft and says clean, single-instrument recordings work best, so this is a starting point for transcription rather than a finished score guarantee. The service uses BasicPitch on the maker's servers; Free includes five conversions a month, while Pro removes that quota.

Chord detection is free, unlimited, and processed on the user's device, including offline. That is a useful counterweight to the capped, server-based transcription. Practice tools include measure looping, a tempo speed trainer, chromatic tuner, metronome, tap BPM, scale reference, and piano. Collaboration rooms provide synchronized playback and built-in voice chat through a six-character sharing code.

Pricing

Cesure is freemium, with a 7-day trial and two stated plans:

Free — €0.00, billed forever: three saved scores, unlimited version history, and five AI transcriptions per month. It is a sensible way to edit occasional scores and use chord detection, but the library cap and transcription allowance constrain ongoing use.
Pro — €4.99 per month, billed monthly: unlimited AI transcription, an unlimited synced library, watermark-free PDF and MIDI, plus MusicXML and AlphaTex export. This suits regular transcribers and users who need a larger synchronized collection or those exports.

Both plans support editing, but saving and syncing, transcription, and room hosting require an account. Pro's main practical gains are removing the score and conversion limits and adding export options; the monthly billing avoids a longer stated commitment.

Platforms

Cesure runs on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, giving it reach across desktop and mobile devices.

Who it's for

Cesure is a strong fit for guitarists who want to edit in multiple notation views, import common tab and notation formats, and keep practice aids near the score. It also suits players who need occasional audio-to-tab drafts or want free offline chord detection. It is less compelling for users who need a large free saved-score library or frequent free transcription; those needs run into explicit caps.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple score views and cross-view editing support different workflows; broad imports and PDF, MIDI, and MusicXML exports make it useful for file exchange; unlimited on-device chord detection works offline; practice tools and voice-chat collaboration broaden its use beyond editing.
Cons: Free users can save only three scores and make five AI conversions monthly; transcription is a draft and works best with clean single-instrument recordings; saving, syncing, transcription, and room hosting require an account.

Alternatives

Choose Guitar Tab Maker if a free editor with no account, credits, or watermarks is the priority. TabMaker is another freemium option, with no-registration local browser storage on its free plan and no cloud backup.

Guitar Tabs X offers basic free functionality on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. Soundslice may suit users focused on slices and scans: its free plan includes unlimited slices but limits scans to two pages per month, one page and 32 bars per scan.

Guitar2Tabs is worth considering for demo transcription: its free plan allows unlimited demos up to 20 seconds each and PDF download. TuxGuitar is a free guitar tablature editor for Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Noterix is an alternative for users who want a cloud-oriented plan: its Pro plan is $9.99 USD per month, billed $89.91 per year, and requires owning the Noterix App. Guitar Tab Creator offers a standard editor without an account, with saved tabs and an advanced editor added by a free account.

Verdict

Choose Cesure if you want a versatile score editor with practical practice tools, flexible notation views, and free offline chord detection, especially if Pro's unlimited transcription and synced library fit your routine. Look elsewhere if you need a generous free score library or rely on transcription as a finished result rather than an editable draft.
