In their own words
ChapterGen
ChapterGen generates YouTube chapters from uploaded video or audio files. It transcribes the audio, detects topic shifts, identifies sections, and creates chapter titles. Because it works from uploads, creators can prepare chapters for unpublished, private, or unlisted videos without providing a public YouTube URL. Audio-only material such as podcasts, interviews, and voice recordings is supported. Users can edit titles and timestamps before copying the output, which starts at 0:00 and is formatted for a YouTube video description. The FAQ lists MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV, MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, and FLAC, with a maximum file size of 500 MB. The site's Whisper-based AI auto-detects language and supports 90+ languages. The homepage says uploads are deleted automatically after processing. The Free plan costs nothing and allows 2 videos of up to 20 minutes each, with no signup. Paid one-time plans are $5, paid once for 5 videos and $12, paid once for 15 videos. ChapterGen is a web tool.
Whipscribe
Whipscribe turns podcast links or uploaded recordings into searchable transcripts with timestamps and speaker labels. It can retrieve audio from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Buzzsprout, Substack, Podbean, RSS, or YouTube links when the source is eligible; URL fetching is limited to Creative Commons or public-domain material, excluding copyrighted or paywalled content. Automatic diarization labels speakers and timestamps words. Users can search transcripts, create chapter-marked summaries, collect key quotes, draft a social blurb, and ask chat questions that receive answers with quoted timestamps. Exports include TXT, SRT, VTT, DOCX, and JSON, with show notes and captions also described. The service says it auto-detects 99+ languages. Whipscribe says audio stays on its private infrastructure, is not sent to third-party transcription services, and is not used to train models. Audio retention varies by plan: 30 days for free accounts and 365 days for paid plans. The free plan covers a first transcript of any length; one-time packs include 1,000 minutes for $8, paid once and 5,000 minutes for $24, paid once.
